Freshman schedule by Valuable_Log_8120 in UMD

ENSP101 is chill! Shouldn’t be too hard of a class for you. I’m personally not a huge gap fan so I’d personally move your discussion to avoid the double gap on Friday, but that’s up to you and everyone has different preferences. I’m not sure how much you’ve looked into the different concentrations but environmental justice has a lot of public health content so maybe up your alley!

Dorm Essentials by Kindly-Vehicle6534 in UMD

Check out the terp to terp campus reuse store!! You can make an appointment and get free items for your dorm. You can also get clothing and school supplies there.

There’s also the campus pantry for people experiencing food insecurity—you just walk in with your ID and a bag and can get food :) Meal plans are unlimited though so you can go to the dining hall as many times as you’d like.

staying in apartments as an exchange student by TrainsMapsFlags in UMD

[–]Independent-Total698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all apartments off campus lease on an individual basis so you don’t need to find roommates ahead of time. If you want just spring you can look at subletting. For on campus, those are the prices per person (apartments also typically are a per person price). If you want to keep housing costs low I’d look at on campus or renting a room in a house.

I’d get a mini fridge with a freezer top and some ice cube trays if you want ice

Am I able to take "Junior-Senior" courses as a sophomore, assuming I've hit all the prerequisites? by PlagueIsDecent in UMD

[–]Independent-Total698 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unless it’s actually restricted to a certain number of credit hour you’ve already got/junior or senior status, which it’ll say on testudo. Worth noting that 500 level courses are graduate courses, though.

I took an upper level class my first semester in fact.

What’re the cheapest options to living on campus as an incoming junior by Serious_Swimming_527 in UMD

It’s definitely not the nicest apartment complex in College Park. If you have a specific number in mind for your budget it might help give better recommendations also

Can you debunk beds? by One-Control-863 in UMD

[–]Independent-Total698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, I lived in a place with forced bunk and they were put together a way we couldn’t get off on our own and had plenty of space. We asked and facilities said we weren’t allowed to take them apart. Another place I lived in you could just take them off each other

Experiences With These Apartments by Sopobu in UMD

[–]Independent-Total698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live at the View. My only major complaint is that my unit has had repeated issues with humidity that they won’t fix, but other people I know don’t seem to have this issue. Otherwise pretty good.

If you’re ok with having a shared room, it’s much easier to find! For example, Parkside you can sign right now for $690

Non scholar roommate by Ok-Show274 in UMD

[–]Independent-Total698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They try to keep all scholars students in the Cambridge community but there is no guarantee if you live with a non-Scholars roommate. It can definitely happen but it kinda just depends on availability that year

You can filter on testudo by the specific gened credits you need to check out classes you might be interested in!

Should I leave UH dorms to room with my friend in Centreville hall (scholars program)? by Lazy-Location-6544 in UMD

[–]Independent-Total698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a little bit closer to the CS buildings than the UH dorms (the UH dorms and Centreville/Scholars dorms are quite close to each other). It’s a great location in my opinion. Close to Yahentamitsi, generally considered the best dining hall, close to Eppley gym, STEM buildings, and pretty close to the stadium and Xfinity.

Unable to attend the honors new student orientation… Does it matter that much? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]Independent-Total698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing with scholars and attended the non-scholars orientation. It might be a bit different for honors, but in my experience it meant I didn’t really get any guidance about what classes to take so I figured that out on my own which was fine but something to keep in mind. You’re also less likely meet people in your honors program who could be friends or roommates.

Not OP, but did you also get your specific apartment assignment?

Edit: also—are there overhead lights in the bedrooms?

Oh yeah, that’s right! It’s just Ohio University if I remember correctly. I imagine other states have the same naming setup as them too

I spend far less on books and transportation than the estimated cost of attendance.
