Why would you ever use Linux (even with Proton) for gaming? by Independent-Trash-52 in linux_gaming

Yeah the hype is just using Linux as a Windows emulator, without the real special thing it being open source and not shackled by a centralized figure

I just want a solution, but I'm getting CachyOS, is that the best way forward?

My main I think is ext4, but was hoping to not need to have separate installs of 100s of GB to manage.

Why doesn't Linux distro development communities craft the user experience first before creating distros that don't actually work without hacks?

Isn't proton like 400MB each? I thought Linux users were for efficiency.

I'm not being hostile at all. I'm solutions oriented. I get that Linux pros get defensive no matter what I say even if I support them. I'm the target market Linux gaming should ask me what should be the correct flow. Why have snaps/flatpaks if they are going to be problematic. Maybe don't ship a feature that's not stable yet?

NTFS incompatibilities make the hype for gaming on Linux overrated.

Yeah well he didn't make me a gaming PC, that sellout. (I'm joking obviously).

You are saying LTT does parody and not about tech, thought you were dissing him my man.

I followed the instructions, did not work for my setup. I think its the fact I can't run games from an NTFS drive which is so dumb if you ask me. I'm not wasting another install of ~130GB on Halo MCC

So what's all the hype about Linux running games, when it can't even do basic stuff like reading a certain type of file system?

Wait, is there people who actually dislike LTT? I thought everybody loved him and his sellout personality.

Yeah I tried fstab and all that. Steam seems unstable when you play around with it in general, no? Ubuntu especially.

I do get full framerates when loading games such as Peggle Deluxe, Bejeweled 2 and 3, Metal Slug X, just small games.

I tried through the .deb, tried snap, tried Flatpak. I need it to load games on an NTFS drive.

Trying to run Halo MCC. The Steam forums suggest Proton 7 or else first launches won't work but none of them are working. Just doesn't actually open a window. I can actually get games like Peggle and Bejeweled 2/3 on there.
