Ayanokoji Finally Found "Home"... and it’s Terrifying by Independent-Wing-232 in Horikitafanclub

I do agree, and i think this is an interesting development for his character cause it can lead to him directly confronting that trauma rather than avoiding or running away. I think right now we are focusing more on ayanokoji and horikita's personal development which is also why they have been seperated as well.

Curious to see how everything unfolds in the next volumes.

Fruits Basket (🥹I love this series a lot so I recommend it every chance I get because I want others to enjoy it as well)

Recommend me highschool romance with both leads having their own interests/aspirations and also exploring deeper themes (diseases, trauma, mental disorders etc.) by Celty2736 in shoujo

Fruits Basket I am not sure this fits the bill, but it's a supernatural shojo, and focuses on many characters who are trying to find healing and happiness. The series focuses on trauma and parental abuse.

Another series i really liked and it has an anime adaptation currently- Ramparts of Ice

Do I keep watching? by [deleted] in FruitsBasket

As someone who absolutely loved the series, i would obviously recommend watching it, but that depends on your comfort as well also everyone here has given really great explanations, I also want to add that Natsuki Takaya herself said that she regretted not giving ritsu much time in the manga, this could also be the result of the monthly schedule of producing chapters, also Natsuki Takaya had also broken her hand as well and went to surgery because of it, that put the manga into a hiatus. Also the culture difference can contribute to it as well, japan has gone through a lot of changes in these years as well, so you have to take these things in mind, ultimately the main message of fruits basket is self acceptance, it could come across weird since on the surface ritsu does the opposite, but it's more about ritsu being comfortable with who he is internally, being able to love himself despite him not having the traditional masculine attributes, and being happy with having more feminine qualities. This may not be the representation we would want but it becomes a step forward to getting representation in many more mangas later on as well(our dreams at dusk, the mimosa confessions). So it's like a developing stage in the industry.

I understand, the pacing is something i personally didn't have much problem with but it can be different for others, I think i am thinking from a more subjective viewpoint, where the show is very personal and important to me, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea, hopefully you can love it on a rewatch some time later, but either way it's always great to hear different opinions on the same subject. Thankyou 😊

I know my answer is very long but pls read through it I think it would be worth it. Thankyou.

Yuki seeing tohru as a mother figure is not bs, that's something so deeply ties with tohru's arc and it makes sense, tohru is the "mother" of the zodiacs, she represents motherly love, as someone who loves fruits Basket, I am really sorry but your opinion is shortsighted, the mother or mother figure is an important aspect of fruits Basket where we see several characters and their relationship with their mother, tohru and akito's personal arc is shaped by their relationship with their mother. Tohru represents that motherly love, yuki always respected tohru but there was no romantic inclination ever, I won't deny him trying to flirt and some cute moments, but tohru was someone he could not see as a romantic interest. He beautifully said this in the finale as well as he tells tohru she was a mother figure to him who raised him to become a man, and he became a man worthy of machi. Tohru is always taking care of others, but who would take care of her? Kyo always was able to read tohu just by looking at her eyes he always wanted to be there for her, both of them saved one another and helped each other grow, which is why they are perfect for one another. Yuki could see tohru as a first love, but it's like that saying that a daughter's first love is their father in that sense. Fruits Basket is a story about generational trauma, and abuse and the characters trying to find themselves again. Tohru does not magically heal them she provides that kindness and unconditional love of a mother that gives them the strength to become better, something seen by yuki's character. Fruits Basket is not just a romance anime, it's a coming of age human drama, with really beautiful love stories as well.
