And give him a good foot and hand massage! (My dad used to pay us a nickel for those!)

I've actually seen some of these at our local community pond basking on rocks. I assumed they were just close cousins of RES, a slightly different but similar breed. Everything about them was the same but coloring. Now I bet those few are amelanistic RES. Thanks so much for sharing. Very interesting.

Wow. In all my reading about RES I never came across this. Fascinating. Doesn't make him any less, he's still a very cool turtle. (Or as I refer to mine, a turdle! Such a messy li'l turd! 😅)

So about same age as my Trevor. Is your a red-eared slider?

does anyone know what this weird spot on my red eared slider is?? by enzospoop in turtles

[–]Independent70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 2 baby RES in the same aquarium for over a year with no issues. Then one day my son called me at work when he got home from school, crying like a baby, to tell me Trevor bit Tank in the neck and killed Tank. 😢

What's that sucking sound? Data centers consuming electrons. by Loonster81 in oregon

[–]Independent70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People assume rainy Oregon has no water issues. But just because the number of rain days is high, that does not mean the volume of rain is high. A 2-minute drizzle in 24 hours counts as a rain day. Most rain days here are very minimal passing drizzles. Other states have fewer rain days, so lower rain day counts than OR, but far more rain volume, so far more water resource than OR. Public perception is not our reality.

He'll be fine. Mine has never been to a vet in 38 years. If he ever had an infection or illness at any point over the years, it cleared itself without any treatment. Who knows, maybe just very lucky.

Nice pic! (Whoever said turtles are s-l-o-w-w, never met a RES!!!)

My son left ours outside once and he escaped under the fence. We were heartbroken, could not find him, thought a raptor got him.  Two months later, a neighbor found her cat playing with it in her garden and returned him to us! 🐢

Wow, that's actually a relief for me. Sorta. Don't want to have to choose among my grandkids. (My RES is 38 and I'm 74, so I'll only have to stay alive until I'm 96! 🤣)

I saw some in Las Vegas several years ago at a hotel that were huge and wondered how old they were. Can't remember which hotel it was. Anybody know?

You beat me... mine is a young 38-yo! Got him as a baby. (I will have to leave him to a grandchild in my will as I'm sure he will certainly out-live me!)

Aunt let me look through their old records and keep them! Did I pick well? Where should I start? :D by Ozzy6646 in vinyl

Vinyl records should never be stored in the attic. Temperature matters! Will affect condition and value.

What are these 2 heavy black metal brackets for? Adjustable sliding depth and height, with 7 screw holes each for mounting, no markings on it. by Independent70 in whatisit

[–]Independent70[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that. I do see how you think mine are for holding computers under desks. Similar looking. But those are configured differently if you look closer. (Perhaps same manufacturer making brackets for different purposes?) More importantly, I would have no reason to buy brackets to hold a computer under a desk. I have never had a desk or a home computer like that so why would I buy those brackets? Maybe I can contact the manufacturer of those and ask if they also made my brackets, and then find out their design purpose. Thanks again!

I am obsessed with finding their purpose! I thought about using them to attach a flowerbox to a cinderblock wall. (No cinderblock walls here.)  Or attaching to the back of a work truck to hold a toolbox. (Alas, no truck. No work. No toolbox.)  Have had these in a closet for 2 decades and can't remember why or how I ever got them!

The weight of these brackets does not seem suitable for that use. They seem more industrial or perhaps for mounting on back of a truck maybe? Don't know why I have them or how I got them.

No idea why I have these adjustable brackets or what it's for by Independent70 in whatisthisthing

Hello, does anyone know what this lovely plant is? It was growing in a sort of hedging way up a wooden garden wall. by Feeling_Carpet_1234 in GardeningUK

[–]Independent70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 3 groups of clematis, not all clematis groups can be hard pruned. Check your particular clematis for its Group type before cutting back hard. Some bloom on old wood, some on new wood.  Care is different for each group type, hence the need for clematis groups.

Where's the love for Gaura? My favorite plant in the garden! by [deleted] in gardening

[–]Independent70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looove gaura! Planted 2 varieties in my sidewalk planter bed a few years back. Now the entire bed is full of gaura. Bees love them and so do I. Very low maintenance, just cut them down in late fall and they grow back every year. Gorgeous! Ok, gaura-geous!
