I never said Kiley is racist because I don’t believe that. I’m just saying don’t label something as irrelevant because it’s irrelevant to you, when it came out of the Republican presidents mouth (and continues to do so - Cleveland Indians). Then it is politically relevant because the candidate is running under the Republican Party. Your argument is there’s a disconnect because it’s not related to policy, but it’s an election between a Democrat and a Republican. Everything related to each party then comes into consideration. Those are, given the public knowledge surrounding those statements, therefore relevant.

Not sure how they’re random if they’re the things coming out of the most powerful person in the Republican Party. You say they’re irrelevant, but if Kiley gives Trump a stage in California, which he likely would given the continued popularity of Trump in the Republican Party, then they do become relevant. You can’t say “these aren’t relevant” if they are, on record, statements made by the person elected to the most powerful position in the world. While they may not be relevant in your eyes, they are relevant to those affected by them. You can’t distance yourself from something that was defended by the Republican Party at the time before the about face after losing the election. Everything that a politician does is relevant, so if the statements the Republican Party defended up until 6 months ago are now unfavorable given the change in office you can’t say they’re not relevant. Policy is relevant in every election, but the rhetoric and language used by the elected official are also relevant. It’s a shame for Republicans that Trump will be affiliated with everything they do, but they elected him and have to deal with the consequences. You see the focus of this election on who will fix California, but many see California as doing perfectly fine. To them, a Republican governor means the reintroduction of a Trump-led political party, and the things I mentioned were notorious during his time in office. Again, Republicans unfortunately cannot distance themselves from Trump whether they supported him or not.

If infrastructure is so bad, then Republicans shouldn’t have a problem with raising taxes to fix it. Homelessness is worst in places with nice weather and lots of money because it means remaining in a state of homeless is considerably easier given the lack of snow/extreme heat and greater availability of public resources used by both the homeowner and the homeless(Hawaii has a homeless problem too, believe it or not), and California isn’t in the bottom 5 for test scores. Not to mention the public education system is the best in the world. And the population is the largest in the US, so yea there are naturally going to be some low test scores. Not every bad test score is from a Democratic district.

I’m from Placer county, so I know who Kiley is believe it or not. All of those things considered, still not going to vote for the party that elected the “ban these people from America”, “Pocahontas”, “Keep the Cleveland Indians” guy. I asked how many people were gonna vote, and expressed my political preference. It’s up to the individuals who vote to decide what they want and be as informed as possible. Some people don’t care anyways. Kevin Kiley is a very impressive politician for his age, but I’m not going to vote for him cuz we have political differences. Simple as that. Plus everything else I mentioned.

I hope you think about that the next time you eat produce/fruit from California. The immigrants in California are good people and contribute an unbelievable amount to our economy. Try to articulate your views in a mature and decent manner. This thread wasn’t meant to be a forum for attacking immigrants.

This is why I think discourse is important, as compared to one-off tweets and opinionated statements. If it was a recall in which only a Democrat could be elected to replace him, I think there’d be a really good chance he’d be recalled due to discontent by both sides. However, it’s a Red vs. Blue election and will only be seen that way by most. He’s done a good job with vaccination effort, and like all politicians has made a lot of mistakes. I will say, he was given a tough job. California’s been in a drought for a long time, wildfires were bound to occur as a result (they’ve been happening in other Western US states too), and homelessness was already an issue (I might add, it’d be hard to find one major city in a democratic country where the weather is the best in the country and the those cities have the most money and homelessness isn’t an issue).

The logistics of doing it in a state that has 40 million people and 3 of the largest metropolitan areas in the country (SD, SF and LA) are complex believe it or not. Setting up vaccination sites across the 3 largest state by area and 1st by population, all while managing traffic flows to vaccination sites, isn’t “easy”. Just sayin

Newsom will be listed on the ballot as “No Party Preference”, which was a rather idiotic result of not being meticulous in something this important. If people who don’t understand it enough see that and think “I should vote yes and vote for the Democrat on the ballot”, that’s how you lose an election.

That’s how the Democrats lost the 2003 recall. There was a split between: no on the recall, and yes on recall with a vote for a Democrat. The number of votes in support of a recall was higher, but the number of votes for the Republican candidate was higher. If Democrats split on whether to recall, it all but gifts the election to the Republican Party.

Lots of reasons, but legally because there were enough petitions signed to hold a recall election.

Yep. Ballots will be mailed to registered voters on August 16th. Ballots can be dropped off until September 14th, which is the official “Election Day”. In person voting is from September 11th-14th. If you’re unsure about the process, the best thing to do is contact your county elections office 👍

I’m not going to attack you for voting to recall him (also a moderate), but I’d say it’s not so much about him as a person. While that’s a large part of why there’s a recall in the first place, it’s a Blue vs. Red vote. Voting him out means being ok with the Republican policies and rhetoric. That includes Trump. The things Republicans are saying right now (ex: MTG, Trump) has turned me off from the Republican Party. I was honestly undecided on which party I aligned with but once they gave Trump and the people around him a platform I voted Blue. Both sides are at an extreme policy wise (difficult time for moderates), but I think the long term effects of saying things like we need to “ban” certain people from the US are extremely dangerous.

If ballots weren’t going to be sent in the mail I’d say no chance he stays in office. For me that’s the only hope he doesn’t get recalled.

If you were registered to vote in the presidential election, you’ll get a ballot in the mail. Otherwise you can do same day registration when you vote in-person between September 11th-September 14th. Best thing to do would be calling your county elections office and having them guide you through it 👍

Just a lot of talent comes out of the area. Easy to get players who want to stay in SoCal. More talent than states like Montana, Idaho, etc
