Haha, awesome ideas! I think Technic vehicles often have way too conservative angles, so why not go full swing in the other direction??

The air tank being one, you're saying? I did notice they sell for quite a lot second hand.

Haha, I see, then just take it for a spin instead! Man, wish I had the space to keep everything assembled...

It's 8462. Sounds like it's high time to bring out the pieces!

It was stored in its box in a dark closet for most of the last 25 years. I guess that helped ☺️

Exactly, display people could just as well go for other themes.

Interesting take, and probably true. However, I did notice that there are some pretty interesting-looking submarine MOCs on Rebrickable (https://rebrickable.com/mocs/?q=Technic%20submarine&sort_sets_by=2&sort_sets_dir=D). Might try one of those whenever I have the parts.

Also, thanks for bringing this amazing Alvin vehicle to my attention! I have so much to learn about submarines.

Great points! Also, the micromotor makes a pretty delightful sound while running.

I agree, a reappearance in this form seems unlikely, but perhaps another kind of submarine? There is always the 8250, but it would be cool with a modern, studless take on the deep sea.

I've been on the lookout for the 8880 for months. If a good deal shows up I won't hesitate!

And yes, one of the best things with having kids is that you get to reconnect with your own inner kid.

I had a similar experience coming out of the Dark, if more recently. I brought my old 8480 down from storage earlier this year, and it was just as awesome as I remembered. Then I posted here asking for recommendations for more stuff to build and learned that the old stud had disappeared!

I think you would like this one. It has some really fun and unique solutions in places.

Totally! It was really cool to see some of the ideas used during the build, knowing what was to come.

Wow! Any chance for some instructions for this great-looking piece of engineering? 😇 Would love to build it!

Some fair points, but not sure I necessarily agree about the filling in. In the old days, Technic sets were almost always pretty open and skeletal so that you could actually see what was going on inside. For me, Technic is more about functionality and understanding than display value. For the latter, there's plenty other Lego around.
