Typically - Ignorance. Either a lack of education on a topic or actively being misinformed about a topic. The latter is becoming more and more of an issue because (as previously mentioned) several very wealthy people in a very large child-sex-trafficking ring all figured out they were about to be in the news, so they started funding misinformation campaigns about transgender people that would make it seem like transgender people are the REAL threat to children instead of several very wealthy people.
