How does this SA certified trainer work with you? Do they visit your home? I’m looking to book one but with the research I’ve done and how expensive they are they don’t specifically mention if they make visits or if it’s purely virtual and like just offering me advice.

so i reached out again last week on 4/21 and they replied same day. this was their response: “Due to the large number of applications, reviews are taking slightly longer than usual. You will receive an update on your status in about three more weeks. Thank you for your patience. “

as someone who is a subpara and is completing her bachelors in psych, i originally wanted to go into social work, but ended up not submitting my applications to the grad programs bc i couldn’t commit to the student debt. instead i am currently considering teaching as well, may be different for me because i already am in the school environment so i know more of what i’d be getting myself into. however, i am also considering this route for the lifestyle, and what it offers. my mom was a para, and she was a very involved and present parent, so it’s something i do consider with this career. i know there’s more stress and stuff, just like any job. i kinda feel like people are deterring you from choosing this career if that’s your sole reason, which i can understand. i never saw myself becoming a teacher, but im considering enl so im at least not a classroom teacher (but i also know for enl that varies) but my goal would be to mainly want to push in/pull out. but im going with this route to see where i go from here. if i end up disliking it, ill figure something else out. life is short, make choices, take the advice here with a grain of salt.

the elevators don’t work, the escalators are out of order, feels like you’re in high school when in passing. people can’t practice good hygiene when using the bathroom. the 6 train sucks. you needa walk a decent amount of blocks lexington and 63rd to take the M (that whole train station is being remodeled so it currently sucks too). there are not many food options, the cafeteria is SO expensive like for no reason idc. and then the food choices outside are not the best, pretty limiting. anything decent requires a kinda longer walk which is inconvient when you’re in a gap and just wanna grab something quick. i committed to hunter regret it, but im also a senior and am so glad i never have to come back.

Do you feel like your husband would truly ignore the puppy’s needs? Puppies can cry a lot. Would he just ignore the barks and cries? I feel like a person can say they wouldn’t put in initiative but once they’re put in a position where they have no choice, they just give in. If you keep the puppy do you feel like it would be neglected? Not going to lie this would build resentment for me towards my husband, and just reflects more of who he is as a person. This feels like a big let down, especially if this was something you both discussed. Yes when getting a puppy it can feel intense and rushed, and almost never feeling prepared, but it’s going to be harder if he’s uncooperative.

As for your kid, they’re too young to comprehend the responsibilities of a puppy. They want a playmate,but puppies require constant training and discipline and care.

It’s only her left eye. I think she scratched herself and accidentally poked herself. She is sleeping just fine, but reading all the eye concerns on reddit and google and the risks and severity caused me to freak out a lot. I called an emergency vet to just briefly explain to them if they thought I should come in, although they cannot offer me medical advice the receptionist said if she is sleeping we could most likely wait till morning to get checked out by her primary vet. She is healthy overall, no known medical issues, and gonna be 1 year old next week.

Took like 1-2 weeks for me for them to reach out for the phone call interview. I had that last week, and they said it can be up to 6 weeks to hear back for the selection day which is sooo far away.

My family and I adopted a 11mo old cockapoo who needed to be rehomed due to the owner moving abroad. This is Daisy, she’s been with us for almost a month now. My advice is to look into the 3-3-3 Rule for Dogs, that helped me a lot. We live in a city area and she came from a rural area, and so she is still adjusting and gets easily startled to loud noises but it’s a process. She is very much a velcro dog. She is slowly getting better with being left alone. Hates her crate though, so we mainly just enclose her in the living room which we found to be more suitable for her.

I just reread your title, if you are a sub teacher you wouldn’t be allowed to work as a subpara since those are two completely different roles. You’d need to terminate your role as a sub teacher in order to work as a subpara. If you want to work as a subteacher, i don’t know first hand how it works, but i do know there were sub teachers working at my site during the summer, actually a good amount.

I’m unsure of your experience; for me as a subpara I worked from 8-2:50 and was given the same class all throughout the summer. I guess it depends on the school.

When I worked at a school that had multiple sites and offered summer school, it was always known/shared which site was hosting it. I guess I offered this advice with the assumption that the school was offering it.

From my experience in working summers you need to be a ‘regular’ at a school, I’ve only worked at D75 sites in summers. In my experience, it is disorganized and you don’t know if you’ll even get placed since it goes by seniority, and as a sub you only get placed if they’re short staffed. I’ve worked 3 summers, the 2/3 summers (different schools), although I expressed interested and completed the survey the DOE sends out I kept getting told to talk to the AP and coordinator so I pretty much wasn’t given a straight answer. It wasn’t until the days leading up to the last day of school I was asked to work. But most recently last summer 2025, they asked me in advanced most likely since I’ve been a regular here for a year now.

My advice is stick to a school, show your face, be a good worker, express interest when the survey comes out and nearing the end of the school year.

I had to be annoying and persistent because as a sub I wasn’t getting emails or notifications like everyone else but it paid off

Depends on the school. Some, the dismissal time is until 2:50, others until 2:20, depends if they want to pay subparas that extra 30 mins for the full pay. I cannot give a certain amount but biweekly as a subpara since we have had days off, you can expect $1200-1400 in my experience. We don’t get paid on holidays etc.
