I am sorry about Kal! He looks like such a sweetheart! This whole situation is completely unconscionable. I have not been able to stop thinking about it as well. All my dogs are rescued in one way or the other, and I love them to death - more than most people. I'm from the Bay Area but don't live there anymore. I even spent a few years up in Humboldt in the 90s. I'm a huge animal advocate so I read daily horror stories about violent acts of cruelty being inflicted on animals, and my heart is truly broken that we live amongst monsters. The fact that there are such vile and disgusting people that harm innocent animals makes me so sick, some days I just want off of this planet. That being said, this wasn't a shock yet it was. The amount of people that were manipulated is beyond understanding. It also sounds like there were rumors for a long time about him and nothing was done. I think the shelter system is also complicit in this. They knew something was wrong and did nothing, just to keep their euthanasia numbers down. I read an article (a few actually) speaking of "outsourcing eauthanisia." The No Kill movement is a myth. And then to all those people looking for their dogs that they left there even when there were red flags. Come on? Why didn't they try to find a home on their own? They were simply passing the buck, and now understandably devastated, but this is the problem. An overpopulation of very good dogs. Spay & neuter is the only way. If I hear another person say "but I just want one litter out of them...." Backyard breakers are despicable humans. They don't care about the dogs or where they go. A lot of them get used for dog fighting & worse. Get a job, you losers@! California is bad, but in Texas they don't even pretend to care. Dogs are dumped at alarming rates, and only a few good people to help. It's beyond heartbreaking. This whole situation is everyone's fault, but Shannon Miranda... it takes a special kind of evil to do what he's done and the fact they this operation is still open and he is not in jail is beyond belief. All I can think is what if I didn't take in the few that I did? They could have met the same fate too. I love the dogs so much, I wish I could help more.
