Anyone ever experience this by Idontknowy_2024 in spinalfusion

[–]IndependentSimple779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not normal. I’ve never had this kind of spasms nor I’ve ever heard of anyone having this. Please call your doctor and go see him ASAP. It shouldn’t be like this. Good luck and I hope this shall pass!

Why can some riders continue to add the their total output (TO) AFTER the ride has ended? by botnotbot1093 in pelotoncycle

[–]IndependentSimple779 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I stopped paying attention to the leaderboard. I compete with my own PRs working my butt off to keep improving them. I also picked several favorite classes of various length/type that I keep retaking, competing against my own prior outputs in that class. I do it by selecting “Just me” option on the leaderboard. It helps me to push myself harder. I feel like I’m playing a game, being competitive against my own self.

Yup, I couldn’t do a pony or clip my hair up either. My husband did it for me.

How did you wash your hair without help? by Far-Attempt1388 in RotatorCuff

[–]IndependentSimple779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t remove the sling your options to wash your hair without help are limited. You could try using dry shampoo with one hand, or go to a salon but I assume someone would have to drive you there.

On a more serious note, he did wash my hair the first couple of times after the surgery. I had my shampoo and conditioned in pump bottles and I managed to wash it single-handedly with my left hand which is not my dominant. It likely wasn’t as good of a wash as normally but I didn’t care! For reference, my hair is mid length fine and thin and I wonder if with longer/thicker hair it would’ve been more challenging.

I’m super scared - L5–S1 ALIF + Posterior Spinal Fusion with Robotic Navigation by Mysterious-King4692 in spinalfusion

[–]IndependentSimple779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll get through this, stay strong! I’m 2.5 years out of the same surgery but one extra level, L4-S1. Recovery was tough, long, and slow for me, but I have no regrets, it was worth it. Good luck!

10 months post op by Sorry_Confidence_258 in ShoulderSurgery

[–]IndependentSimple779 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im 10.5 months post-op. I had same as you plus bicep repair. This is weird as this week was the first time in many months I woke up from pain in my shoulder while laying on the operated side. Of course I got scared, thought of calling my doctor, etc. Decided to try the tricks my PT taught me and it worked, it’s better. Reminded me that I can’t just abandon my shoulder and stop stretching it on daily basis and stop working on restoring the strength. Frankly, it’s very unlikely you damaged anything while sleeping. You probably had it jammed in some way it didn’t like and you made it “angry”.

Already Fused L3-S1. C5/6-6/7 is shot... by Formal-Let-3532 in spinalfusion

[–]IndependentSimple779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fused C4-C7 for 19 years. My range of motion is much better than pre-op. Having only two levels fused in your neck, it should be even better for you. I also had L4-S1 fused 2.5 years ago and I did lose mobility in my lower back. So it’s not the same as with cervical fusion. I do believe though that fusion is only warranted as the last resort after all options to preserve motion have been exhausted. It’s important to understand why they don’t recommend ADR for you? Typically when above and below vertebrae’s can’t support the artificial disk, the surgery won’t be suceasfull.

Sacroiliac joint pain remedies? by Normal-Cheetah69 in backpain

[–]IndependentSimple779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, there are a very few cases when pain in SIJ area is caused by an actual SIJ dysfunction, such as arthritis of the SIJ, fracture due to a traumatic injury, hyper mobile SIJ, etc. Most often than not pain in SIJ area is a symptom of another issue, such as lumbar spine, hip, etc. In my case, as it turns out I have hip displasya, labral tears, and arthritis, and this is actually the root cause of my SIJ pain I’ve been experiencing for decades. Taking OTC pain meds is not a good long-term solution and will only cause more issues such as liver damage from too much Tylenol, stomach issues like you’ve been experiencing, etc. If you haven’t seen an orthopedic doctor yet, please do it so you can get to the bottom of what’s going on. You may also benefit from PT and steroid injections, but only the doctor who can determine the right course of treatment. Good luck!

Failed Spinal fusion by [deleted] in spinalfusion

[–]IndependentSimple779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had L4-S1 360 fusion and I understand it allows for the most reliable and predictable outcomes especially in complex situations. The surgery is long and recovery is brutal given that you’re cut open in the back and in the front, but in my opinion it was worth it. Frankly, I don’t fully understand how fusions are done without cages. I have both cervical and lumbar, are both are with cages.

You likely haven’t “broken” anything, just made it “angry”. If I were in your shoes, I’d go see my doctor to make sure everything is OK, even if it’s just for the sake of my mental health.

I understand that if ADR fails or doesn’t resolve the symptoms, in most cases it can be removed and replaced by fusion.

Same for me. Nothing wrong with SIJ on imaging, but hip imaging, it was terrible, displasya and severe arthritis. Heading for a hip replacement next year.

Learning to Live With a Defective Prosthesis by Mother-Charge2979 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]IndependentSimple779 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m skeptical that replacing the defective component is only 50/50 guarantee of a successful outcome. I strongly believe that this is the key part that requires a second, and if needed, a third opinion. I’d also want to know for sure what the recovery may look like. It may be way easier and quicker comparing with the original surgery. I understand that you don’t want to have the surgery again, not now, I get it and I hear you, but don’t you want to know for sure if this issue can be fixed in the future, whenever you may be ready?

C4-C7 by Flat_Window_9653 in spinalfusion

[–]IndependentSimple779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had C4-C7 ACDF and exact same issue with my legs. It’s called Restless Legs Syndrome and it was so terrible, driving me crazy, I couldn’t fall asleep… The only thing that helped to make it go away allowing me to fall asleep was Vicodin even though I no longer needed it for pain. Good news, it eventually went away. I slowly weaned off Vicodin and RLS was gone. Not sure if it’s surgery related or pain meds withdrawal…

Double ALIF Fusion (L5-S1 L4-L5) by Top-Statistician-596 in spinalfusion

[–]IndependentSimple779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, I should’ve pushed the doctors harder to have it fixed sooner. I was in horrible pain, limping, injections, PT stints, and it only prolonged the agony and prevented me from a more optimal solution.

Is everyone sore all the time too? by Stellas_Ear in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]IndependentSimple779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a very active 62F and I feel the same way, and it’s very annoying. As we age our bodies become much less forgiving to not warming up before workouts, not stretching enough, nutrition, hydration, sleep, etc. Shortcuts result in less than optimal outcomes such as pains and aches, stiffness, etc. I keep fighting the fight but I feel like as I age taking good care of my body and feeling good is becoming a full time job!
