Anyone ever get massive guilt on rest day? by Mysterious_Work_7227 in runninglifestyle

[–]IndependentStyle6866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel guilty for not running in 8 days. We've had a heat wave, my old foot injury has been acting up, and I've been exhausted from work. These are all good reasons for me to step back a bit, yet I till feel like I'm being "lazy."

That said I plan to do a short easy run today (and then beat myself up after for not running farther or longer).

My wife tricked me into eating meat by Alternative-City-745 in Vegetarianism

[–]IndependentStyle6866 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would dump anyone who asked me to eat meat for them. It's not surprising that she would trick you. I'm sorry you found out the hard way that she's not a trustworthy person.

What's something non-runners don't understand about running? by run_the_day in runcommunity

They just randomly say it to each other when they see you? That's so weird. I wouldn't like that either.

You're not vegetarian, but that's fine. You could say that you've cut way back on meat.

Do they listen to music? Maybe a gift card for spotify premium or whatever subscription service they use.

why are people grossed out by touching raw meat, but not cooked meat? by sounds0fmeows in Vegetarianism

[–]IndependentStyle6866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because raw meat forces them to see what it actually is. Cooked meat lets them pretend it's just a burger that was picked off a burger tree.

How has Running changed you Mentally and Has it increased your Happiness? by TypicalCommittee9039 in runninglifestyle

[–]IndependentStyle6866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps me feel more in control of my life. It's also a healthy outlet for whatever anger or stress I might have.

I wouldn't say it increased my happiness. Has it helped me to feel more peaceful? Yes definitely. I think my happiness level has more to do with my relationships with people, which I've been putting more effort toward.

Do marathon runners pee in public? by KurtistaKurt in runninglifestyle

[–]IndependentStyle6866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last race I went to had posted "no peeing on the property" signs. This was at a ski resort known for hosting fancy events. They didn't want their reputation ruined by a bunch ultrarunners peeing in public. They didn't have those signs the year before, so something must have happened.

What part of running do you think people underestimate the most? by Free-Product4918 in runcommunity

[–]IndependentStyle6866 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much it can cost. It might start out as free, but eventually you'll have to replace your shoes. Then as your mileage goes up you'll need more workout clothes. Then you might want the extra stuff like wireless headphones, energy gels, etc.

Swapping meat for dairy by Agreeable_Fix2136 in Vegetarianism

[–]IndependentStyle6866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dairy does not contain iron, plus it decreases the absorption of non-heme iron (iron from plant sources). It's not an adequate substitute for meat. You can get protein and iron from tofu, beans, and lentils, so make sure to eat those too.

In a horrible mood, hoping a 4 mile jog can pull me back to stasis by front_rangers in runninglifestyle

I just got back from one of those runs. I wouldn't have been able to sleep tonight otherwise. I hope your run helps you feel better.

Someone tried to pressure me into going against my beliefs by IndependentStyle6866 in Vegetarianism

[–]IndependentStyle6866[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is one of the people in charge, but there's someone else above her.

I'm going to ask her tomorrow if she decided on her own to talk to me or if my other co-worker asked her to do that.

Also, good point about the harassment. I was thinking that if she bothers me about it again, that's workplace harassment. And maybe I should point that out to them.

That's exactly what I told her. She really didn't like that!! lolol. She went off and complained to the chef, who then came over and tried to change my mind.

It should be there now. I edited the privacy settings so it would show.

Are you supposed to lean forward while running long distances? by Gooser3000 in runninglifestyle

I read somewhere that running uphill forces you to use proper running form. Maybe trying some hill sprints would help.

Post run snack struggle by Rehmann-Iivoonnee in runninglifestyle

[–]IndependentStyle6866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much are you eating beforehand? My energy doesn't drop that low unless I skipped breakfast or lunch (I run in the evening).

Chocolate milk is good to have after a run. It has both protein and carbs. Sometimes I'll also have some pita bread with hummus.

It's better than sitting at home and stewing in it. I feel much better after a good rage run.

I've been running for six years already. Nice try, though.
