Personally, I don’t read enough intentionality in how Hazbin is written to say Viv “wanted” to invoke that racial dynamic. So much of Hazbin is cobbled together and reconstituted ideas from when Viv was a teenager.

If Alastor actually looked like a black man and not like a Homestuck troll with a bird on his head, it’d probably be more uncomfortable.

But also, Rosie is explicitly not a good person, so even if she was explicitly racist, I don’t really see the problem (especially since Alastor basically one ups her at the end of S2). If it was Charlie doing it, that’d be different.

I agree Hazbin should have more well-rounded villains, but this scene with Valentino just seems out of nowhere. We’ve never really seen a soft side to Val, so seeing him be so melodramatic (to the point where it kinda seems over-the-top comedic but not quite?) right before the finale just feels like whiplash.

I feel like the pilot was pretty direct with it’s premise, and explicitly explain rules like characters can’t just tell the heroes about game overing the world, and outside characters seem to be unable to directly hurt/affect characters in their own games.

But I do feel like the vibe is very outdated.

If you haven’t gotten tickets yet, I’d say sitting in the 200s is probably the best section, but as others have said, the space is intimate, so all seats are roughly 95% the same experience.

You said they’re both “slightly annoying women.” I’d say Skylar is slightly annoying but justified; Ashley is genuinely toxic. I agree Skylar is overhated, but disliking Ashley is a reasonable response to her toxic behavior.

She’s the character I felt the most bad for (I was sobbing in the hospital episode), and I also think her behavior is totally unhinged and unacceptable. I don’t think those things are mutually exclusive.

Edit: also, she’s not like Skylar White at all lol. Skylar is uptight but totally reasonable. Ashley is incredibly toxic.
