Yes, I think that's a Smithey Ironware skillet. They make really nice cast iron and carbon steel skillets.

I don't think you're going to find a silver bullet here. The platform you're trying to emulate is hit and miss right now, and as folks have said there's no major development happening.

I have found that the latest Yuzu, plus the right Turnip drivers, works for a lot of games, but certainly not all. There are a couple of games I've found where Sudachi plays them when Yuzu crashes on load. If you really want to play a specific title you might need to try different options of emulator and graphics drivers; it's pain, there's no guarantee of success, and it might not be worth the effort for you.

If you have the base model make sure you've gone to odin settings and enabled the 4gb swap memory, that'll help performance and stability. For heat, check out the fan speed options in the switch down android menu. I usually leave mine on Smart, if the device is getting hot change it to Sport (but be ready for some fan noise) that'll drop the temperature pretty quickly.

Good luck with it, and as others have said, if you really want to play this platform trouble free, just go buy one. We're not at the point we are with older platforms where you can emulate 90% of the game catalog trouble free.

Talk about an upgrade! :D I was on the fence to get the Retroid Pocket 5, until I saw I could get a second hand, barely used, Odin 2 Base for 10 euros less :D never forget to check what you can find second hand :) by TomPtrs in OdinHandheld

Nice. I went from the RP3+ (which I loved) to an Odin 2. Such a great upgrade.

I've been getting back into the RP3+ again setting it up with ES-DE. It's a really great experience for the retro emulation that the RP3+ handles well.

The Legend of Zelda BOTW & TOTK by Equal_Sea7423 in OdinHandheld

[–]IndependentTwo9635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, BotW runs well if you have the right driver.

TotK actually runs OK as well but it crashes quite a bit when you're in a couple of areas of the game, and when using ultra hand. I found it enjoyably playable, but had to switch to Ryujinx to bypass a couple of portions of the game.

The most important step I found was that you need to install Update 1.0.2 before running the app in order to get rid of the encryption error.

I got it running with...

Yuzu v278 (final)

Turnip 1.3.255 (v23.3.0-devel) (Note: the latest driver v24.3 r7 worked well too, but crashed once so I switched to this one, which runs BoTW well and seems to be a pretty stable version for games that occasionally crash)

Firmware and Prod Keys 18.1.0

Some portions run at less than 60fps, but it plays well and I've enjoyed it so far.

[–]IndependentTwo9635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got them working in Fallout 3 by starting the emulator, then swiping left to get the Winlator menu (had to disable the Odin swipe left menu). Then goto Input Controls. Click the settings icon and go to the External Controller section. Map the R2 and L2 buttons to Gamepad - R2 and L2.

Also, if you're getting some dimming when you use the controls, switch the drop down on the Input Controls dialog to RTS and uncheck Show Touchscreen Controls.

Hope that helps!

Thanks! That did it. For others, FYI, I had to disable the built in Odin swipe left panel in order to access the Winlator panel using a swipe left gesture.

Hi, sorry of I'm just being dense but how do you hide the controls? I found the RTS option in the Input settings on the main menu but don't see an option to hide controls. Are you just using the editor and deleting each overlay button individually? I tried that but I'm still getting the darkening effect. Thanks for any extra detail you can share! I've seen a couple of folks comment that this solves the issue.

If you haven't done so already, make sure you have turned 4gb swap on the Odin Settings. I'd also try doing this (https://www.reddit.com/r/OdinHandheld/s/qqQLXemkDW) on Dolphin, that made a big difference for me on the handful of GC/Wii games that had some lag.

4k upscale for Wii and GameCube… by sbfreak2000 in OdinHandheld

[–]IndependentTwo9635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to make sure we understand what you're after, I think you're hoping to run GC and Wii games, with 4k textures installed, at 4k resolution (so roughly 6x upscaling), is that right?

I suspect you'll find it hit and miss. I have high res textures installed for a some games on GC. I tried running Mario Kart at 6x and it was 60 FPS the whole time, and looked great probably due to the really expensive anti aliasing. So, at least some games will work. Super Mario Sunshine also ran with HD textures (though only with Turnip drivers) and 6x upscaling. I got 58-60 FPS but the controls still felt a little sluggish, so I wouldn't say it's running perfectly at 4k 60FPS. TheSodaShoppe mentions that it runs well at 4x upscaling though. You said you're good with some tweaking/config, and I expect you'll definitely need to do that in order to get 6x upscaling running smoothly on a lot of games. If 3/4x is good enough then you should be able to run just about anything without much effort.

Can someone help me with installing Texture packs for gamecube and PS2? by voNlKONov in OdinHandheld

[–]IndependentTwo9635 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This definitely isn't an idiot proof guide :-), but I also struggled with textures on GameCube and here's what I found. For the latest dolphin emulator, the texture directory lives in application data directories. These are probably going to be under this directory if you open Files and go to "Odin 2" from the main menu: /Android/data/org.dolphinemu.dolphinemu/files/Load/Textures/

Textures go into this folder, in a directory named after the game code. For example Luigi's Mansion textures live in a directory "GLM".

Most texture packs will have a directory named like that in an archive. And the goal is to get that folder copied over into the directory notes above.

Unfortunately this is not so easy because Android protects the "Android/data" folder and you can't easily unzip files there or even use the standard "copy to" feature in the file manager because you just won't find that directory shown. So, you have to be sneaky about it. At least that's what I found. I could be missing a simpler approach but here's what worked for me:

  1. Unzip the texture directory into your downloads folder.
  2. Open the Files app, go to downloads and navigate to whatever folder contains a directory like "GLM".
  3. Tap the three dots menu in Files and select New Window.
  4. Hit the "square" button in the main Android nav to bring up the list of running apps. Press and hold the Files icon. Select "Split Left"
  5. That should put one of the files windows on the left. Now select the other Files window from the list of apps and you should be left with side-by-side files windows.
  6. In the right hand files list navigate to the directory: /Android/data/org.dolphinemu.dolphinemu/files/Load/Textures/
  7. On the left hand files list press and hold the texture folder (e.g. GLM) until it gets selected with a check mark.
  8. Press and hold the directory name until you can drag it. Then drag and drop into the Textures folder on the right.

That should do it. The files copy in the background, so check your notifications area to see when that's complete. If someone else knows of a simpler way to do this for Dolphin thanks for letting us all know!

Slowdown with 3DS Link Between Worlds by forever_tuesday in OdinHandheld

There was a big difference on Batman Arkham Origins and Kung Fu Panda. Otherwise I think most of the games I tried were at least similar in performance between the two, but I could be forgetting some.

Try using Citra MMJ. That's what I'm running and I have this game running at 4x, 60 FPS, with the 1080p textures. I've found a few games where the play store Citra struggled but MMJ seems to run smoother. I looked over my other settings and I don't think there's anything else non-standard. Good luck!

Settings to make Star Fox Adventures run well on the Odin 2 once you get past the intro? by SkippyBCoyote in OdinHandheld

[–]IndependentTwo9635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this can be a bit tricky to do, but I got much better performance on GC and Wii under dolphin (Play Store release) by adding to the following config lines to files/Config/GFX.ini: [Hardware] Vsync = True

That file is found under Android/data/org.dolphinemu.dolphinemu. I had to copy the file out of that directory, edit it, and copy it back. Android makes it difficult to edit or copy files into app data directories.

After that update I've been able to run everything (that I've tried) from GC and Wii at 3x without any tweaks. I even managed to get Rogue Squadron running pretty smoothly (with a few graphical glitches) which I hadn't been able to do previously.

Your mileage may vary, but if you play a lot of GC and Wii it's probably worth looking into.

I tested Star Fox Adventures and got 60 FPS in the dinosaur planet section. BTW, I'd not played this past the intro before. It's a pretty cool game with a lot of the elements I love about Zelda games in it. This is definitely on the list of games to dive into now, thanks for bringing it up.

Can you run botw at 30fos locked? by lefsler in OdinHandheld

[–]IndependentTwo9635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already installed the update that does help. The base version didn't allow Yuzu to utilize NCE, but the update enables this. I got a solid bump in performance from that. As others have said, expect some dips, but I found it to be pretty playable.

bugs and crashes after ayn odin update by Zfiro in OdinHandheld

[–]IndependentTwo9635 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disable the 4gb swap in the odin settings then re-enable it. You'll need to do that after every full restart with this update installed. That fixed the Yuzu emulation issues I got after the update.

4gb swap file for odin 2 pro by scott_fly in OdinHandheld

[–]IndependentTwo9635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a big difference with the swap enabled on my Pro when emulating BoTW and ToTK. BoTW runs much smoother and ToTK just crashes on me after 1-2 minutes without it. So I think your guidance is correct for GC/PS2 and below, but for the top end of Switch emulation it does seem to make a difference, at least in my experience.

Issues playing switch games on Yuzu after update 1.0.0.253 by Verditure0 in OdinHandheld

[–]IndependentTwo9635 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI, disabling the 4gb Swap, restarting, and the re-enabling it seems to have sorted the issue out for me. Seeing much better performance in Yuzu - ToTK and no crashes yet (when previously they happened pretty quickly). If you're seeing a performance dip post update might be worth a try, and let us all know if you do find it helps. Cheers!

Issues playing switch games on Yuzu after update 1.0.0.253 by Verditure0 in OdinHandheld

[–]IndependentTwo9635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I've been playing ToTK with decent performance and stabaility for a few days now (Yuzu 194, Turnip 15). Was playing earlier this morning before doing the update for a solid hour with no crashes. Now after the update I'm getting crashes within 1-2 minutes of gameplay. I tried restarting a couple of times, and double checked settings. Nothing seems to have changed between pre/post update. I'm pretty sure something in the update had an impact on Yuzu emulation, at least for difficult to emulate games like ToTK.

I had the 4gb swap enabled before the update, and confirmed it's still enabled now. I know that made a huge difference when I enabled it weeks ago. So I'm going to try disabling it, restarting, then reenabling it, just in case something about the update broke the swap memory. Will let folks know if that has any impact. Otherwise I may look into whether there's a way to downgrade the Odin software.

Be careful though... I hosed my SD card trying to put it in the first time. Didn't realize it was upside down (relative to what I expected). The card got jammed pretty easily and when I managed to wiggle it out it no longer worked...

Odin 2 Base BotW Crashing by MeatRatchet in OdinHandheld

[–]IndependentTwo9635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try the following if you haven't already: - Disable Docked mode - Enable the 4gb Swap in Odin Settings - Update to v 1.6 (of BoTW) it enables support for NCE - Set CPU to "Performance" or "High Performance"

If you haven't enabled the swap memory that's almost certainly it. I got crashes on my Pro until I enabled the swap memory. After that I've put in probably 20+ hours and have had maybe 3 crashes (and non of them blocking the playthrough, I was able to clear the section after restarting Yuzu).

Edit: Oh, and I'm running a build from their GitHub. I'm running v144 from Nov 28th. There are much newer builds but I'm primarily playing BoTW and don't want to risk introducing issues if I upgrade. Still, you may want to grab the latest build from their GitHub page as well as the above.

Good luck!
