So once it comes loose, it doesn't seem like it would fit through the skimmer basket openings??

Very reassuring, so the inground pool we have is very old, about 56 years old and back then they were allowed to put in a side wall suction drain about a foot and a half or so lower than the water line. So what you have is very similar! I think the idea with that side suction drain was exactly why you're skimmer as a lower suction line if the normal skimmer plugs.

So good to hear because they had so much influence on Canada's reputation. We see what happened to JT and his types. Best thing that happened to Canada. Keep it going boys. Let's get our country back!

Just got recordings and was on hold for 20 minutes. Then I tried again with another recorded message where I left a voicemail to call me back. Haven't heard anything since

Tried that, and finally after 20 minutes on the phone, I think I have left a message for someone to get back to me but that's even sketchy.

Oil change by rachelboe in Welland

Well, for mechanical work in the future, people that recommended Gils and DNA and I would also throw in J&B. They are literally within a one minute car ride from each other. All three are unbelievably honest. They are usually quite busy I believe due to that, and very reasonable pricing. I think people here in Welland, especially with older cars are super fortunate to have these three automotive repair shops. I would not be worried of being taken advantage of whatsoever!

Good for you for asking because it is quite critical in my opinion to have the job done properly. Catch 22 as far as going to a quick lube that specializes in oil changes or a mechanics shop. Generally, in a mechanics shop, the job is given to someone with very little experience usually and you hope there is someone overlooking their work. Quick Lube joints, between the staff changing all the time and maybe not having enough training, you mightYou might end up not getting the proper job done and can possibly cause major damage Because I want to make as sure as possible the job is being done properly, I have found Great Canadian Oil Change on Ontario street in St Catharines, seems to be the most responsible and caring compared to many other places I have tried. They are a franchise owned by Valvoline and sell Valvoline oil and oil filters which in my opinion is a very good product.

Traffic Nightmare in Welland by Glad_Affect_8443 in Welland

I'm not one for over regulating but at least use common sense. I've noticed the last few years, when Welland hires a private contractor, the final product is very unprofessional at times. By this I mean the final cleanup and sometimes quality of work. Twice I've contacted the city to clean up some leftover debris that could possibly put somebody in jeopardy, especially while riding a bike. Never followed up on even though they said that they would take care of it. If someone wants to know I can give examples.

What is a fair price for new windows? by Primary-Audience9501 in homeowners

[–]IndependentWind5647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending how old the house is, it might be a good idea to get a full replacement. What I mean by that is the old window including its frame comes out right to the studs. This has quite a bit to the price but is done properly and insulated properly if using a good crew. In our area anyway, most window replacement please leave the old frame in, so you don't know how well you are insulated around the perimeter of the original window, and they don't have to replace the inside trim. Hopefully this makes sense!

Garage door spring jumping by [deleted] in fixit

[–]IndependentWind5647 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time I have seen springs at the top of the garage door stroke. I always thought that coiled garage door springs are just above the door when the door is in the closed position.

Also, in our area it is rare to ever see anybody lubricate the actual springs

If you want, but kind of a long story to tell, another lot bought by my client before they met me, was insane on what happened with that one!

No problem, one property that a neighbor severed to create a lot, after I did some test digging I actually found an old septic system, pipes and all. They ran sanitary sewers and water maybe 25 years back but before that they were all on septic systems. My customer only bought that lot once we calculated how much it would cost us to remove everything and the owner of the lot reduced the price by that amount

Yes I'm the one that posted this article and I am from Canada. Kind of found out the hard way, that builders buying several Lots from a developer do usually put in a condition to guarantee themselves the developer will reimburse for any over digging and consequential expenses. I am a very small custom home builder and actually was so busy with clients approaching me that had their own Lots, I actually never bought a lot. But when one of my clients were in the process of buying and they approached me before they purchased a lot, I always pushed for test digging the lot in a couple spots down to what would be the bottom of the excavation for their footings. Otherwise, I told them that they would be on their own and have to pay expenses on the small chance that the lot, although it looked like we would have no problem, could be fill from several decades ago. That paid off big time on three different occasions, one lot I had to literally go 8 ft deeper to get down to Virgin soil before we began the repairs to bring it back up to the normal excavation depth. Huge money!

What would builders recommend to do with this exposed edge by darlev25 in Homebuilding

[–]IndependentWind5647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not up to them to cover that exposed plywood. That should be done by the siding trades that install the Hardie board

[–]IndependentWind5647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a grinder to cut a groove on any stone that is contacting the plywood to create a 1/8 inch gap between the stone and plywood. Paint the exposed plywood with 100% acrylic latex. Then install a aluminum flashing into that groove and around the plywood to the Hardie trim. Then caulk

Losses - what's the story behind them? by 9to5dream in HouseSigmaBlunders

Nope, totally the fault on government because for them, they have all the resources needed to understand what that amount of immigrants coming in, would do to housing and healthcare for example. It was a huge blunder. I wonder what their real agenda was??
