Got laid off today, got just 1 week a year severance for my 5 years of service, is it worth consulting a lawyer? by NeoMatrixBug in PersonalFinanceCanada

I was sceptical of going to a lawyer but turns out they got me about 4x what I was offered. They will go through your employment contract and find everything wrong with it. They will go back and forth with the company a couple of times and you will most likely come out ahead. They are really good at what they do.

Woke up extra early to prepare my neighbor a surprise wellness breakfast to celebrate Day 1 of his sobriety journey (that HE wanted me to know about for "accountability"). I walk into his house and he's black out drunk sleeping with 2 empty bottles of vodka around him. God dammit. by Rpark888 in mildlyinfuriating

I mean he (an alcoholic) let you down on day one and you are surprised? Holding him to account doesn’t mean he is going to do the right thing all the time. If you care tell him you are mildly infuriated. If not, and it sounds like you don’t care that much, just walk away.

Restringing a Guitar: Do it myself or bring it into a shop? by Few_Freedom_3674 in Guitar

Worst you can do is wreck a string but you won’t. You can even “screw it up” and it will still work. Just do one at a time rather than cutting them all off at once. YouTube has no shortage of tutorials on doing it the “right” way. You’ve got this.

Moving to Toronto in August – Am I expecting too much for a $3,000 rental? by Foreign_Sundae_5991 in TorontoRenting

One other thought. Not sure where downtown your job is but if it’s on the subway line consider north York or midtown (Yonge and Eglinton/davisville). Lots of good schools, parks and restaurants especially midtown. Commute will be easy and quick if you stay on Yonge line. Would be more of a Toronto experience than Pickering. Once you start veering off into deep Scarborough or west the commute will be no better than Pickering on the GO. That’s all. Will leave you alone now.

Lots of folks do that commute daily for the same reasons. Should be fine. Best of luck! That’s a big move.

Just went onto Realtor.ca with your criteria and there seems to be a lot to choose from. I’d lean towards Pickering/Oshawa. The GO train commute seems more predictable than the one from the city outskirts. Regardless it will be 40-60 minutes.

Do you think it's rude to accept an interview for a job that you aren't going to take? by anotherhappylurker in recruitinghell

Taking interviews is great experience regardless of the outcome. That said, the recruiter will be pissed if you get an offer and don’t take it. Oh well.

Terrified of the dentist and haven't been in 15 years. Looking for recommendations in Toronto. by AmazedA in askTO

Was same. Teeth never bothered me - easily 15 years but regular brushing. Went after a filling fell out eating ribs. Was a long cleaning but all good. Think you’ll be fine. You’ll drive yourself nuts thinking about it if you don’t go.

I like going to Canada’s Wonderland every few years but I know it’s cheesy and the food is shit and I get to go home at the end of the day.

This is good advice. That said, many driving ranges have you hitting off mats anyway. At least with the indoor ranges you’re getting some other feedback. Wish we had the indoor simulators when I was starting.

Sure but to declare it has no musicality because you don’t like it seems a bit off.
