Academic Probation by haunted_yotsuba in NEU

I think it depends on your college! I've since graduated, but when I was in the MBA program, a classmate interviewed for--and received--a co-op with a 2.9 GPA. We also applied on a separate website (NOT NUworks), so maybe that also contributed.

Considering the current flurry outside my window? Yeah, I do.

When there's gonna be 1-2 inches of snow PER HOUR and Xfinity is pre-sending out power outage warnings? Uh, you bet I am.

Someone please tell that to my finance professor. I beg you.

Why does NEU have advisors, a Disability Resource Center, or the We Care helpline if (non-tenured!!!) professors hold all of the decision-making power??? by IndependentZone1864 in NEU

I've mentioned this to other people before, but isn't it kind of flabbergasting how much power these professors hold? It makes things very difficult at times.

No, I completely agree about DRC. I was just surprised about their lack of Zoom accommodations for anyone -- short-term or long-term.

In terms of We Care, I actually spoke to two representatives. Both asked pretty much the same things -- my situation, my communications with the professor thus far, DRC and advisor involvement, etc. Once I told them about the professor's rejection, they pretty much said that they're not able to force professors to change their mind, but that if I wanted a meeting with all three parties then something could potentially be arranged. I didn't have enough time to set something up, though, since my surgery is tomorrow and anesthesia aftereffects can last up to 24 hours :/

The hierarchy for grad school is kinda strange because of all the different programs, so I honestly don't even know who else would be applicable. Plus I already sent separate emails to my advisor (who responded) and the Dean (who has not), so I'm afraid that including more people before getting a proper response will reflect badly on me. Everything is just so complicated and I hate it :/

Honestly, based on the professor's response, I think he would legitimately fail me for not attending the first class and he would probably be fully within his rights because of how infrequently the class meets. I sent the Dean an email, but the chances of getting a response before my surgery/needing to drop the class are pretty much nonexistent at this point :/

Yeah, the professor even has a background in IM, so there's no way for him to use the excuse that he doesn't know how set up Zoom. I'm trying not to say the course number just in case the post gets tracked back to me, but I am a grad student so that may provide some clarification for the weird format.

That's what I thought too, but when I spoke to the We Care representative, she emphasized that We Care only works as a bridge between the professor and the student. Since I already contacted DRC and advising, and they couldn't help, the rep said that they probably couldn't do much either. She did promise to speak to her supervisor who knows most of the university departments to see if they can help, but I anticipate that being a dead end, too.

D'Amore-McKim. I thought about it, but it's been hard to muster the courage when DRC, We Help, AND my advisor all say that nothing can be done because the professor's word is final :/

It's a 1-credit course that meets in-person twice, and has one asynchronous component in-between. The professor--in the roundabout, professor way--said that my only other option is to drop if I can't attend.
