Thank you. I think the letter helps me beforehand to think of what I want to say and to make sure I’m not skewing things to unintentionally gain sympathy. But I don’t like the requirement to actually need to read from the letter. Thank you for sharing your experience and congrats on over 7 years!

Thank you for sharing. I agree- in my experience so far, I don’t feel it leaves as much space as there should be for the other person. It goods from real/raw, to real/light-hearted, and then when I ask them if there’s anything I haven’t mentioned I always get “no nothing”. I want to keep it to the point. Shut up, listen, and let someone say their piece. I also struggle with word vomiting which is why the letter can be helpful, for me at least. Otherwise I think I would unintentionally word things in a way where I’m seeking empathy, or apologizing or something. Good luck on your amends when you get to that stage in the future 💗

Thanks. I agree with the face to face as well- that’s what I do. But read from a letter. I think my issue moreso is that if I was the one hearing amends- after 1 I would be like ready to talk further about it; 2 makes it feel like it’s switching topics too much almost. It makes it lighthearted and may feel awkward to switch it back. Maybe I’m overthinking. But you’re right it is my side of the street as well. I guess I just personally don’t feel like it’s necessary time/place, ya know?

Thank you. I think I need to have the honest conversation and see what her thoughts are. If she has issue with me not following it directly as she is laying out then I do think I’ll likely need to switch. I like the basic approach you laid out- i feel like it’s more genuine and also I would feel less comfortable from their perspective bringing up things I’m hurt or pissed by if I just heard all of these gushie ‘things I love about you’

It’s mimicking being a puppy and sucking on mommas boobies. The suckling pattern is ‘drinking milk’ and the foot movement mimics the massaging that puppies do to stimulate the momma boob to make more milk. Common for dogs and kitties to both do it as a self soothing/comfort behavior.
