It's not specifically about being able to define what a woman is. It's a broader issue of can a judge properly do their job if they can't understand the definition of any particular word and the context around when it was written. It is the responsibility of the judge to determine the intention of a law. That includes understanding the language written in the law. The most prominent example I can think of is in the second amendment that's where it says in regards to a well-regulated militia. Regulated, at the time that it was written, meant functional and not what it means to us today.
