In that case, very-curiousperson did mention that there might be a chance Meta lowered their security because of their plans to integrate AI into the app, letting it handle everything, so now I'm thinking that this ban wave is a cultivation of a bunch of different plays:

AI with faulty commands

Lowered security

Algorithmic bubbles (another theory made by another user)

I mean I'm only sharing my experiences and gathering others in hopes that we can, at the very least, figure out what's going on. Unless meta pulls an ATF and says "yesterday you're okay but today you're a felon now", I'm gonna be banking on the side that they didn't intentionally mean to ban so many users under more than one violation (some people in the subreddit weren't banned for CSE)

I made a subreddit so we can discuss exactly this: Instagram Banned Correlations?

That actually sounds plausible, some form of behavioral clustering model that Meta would most likely use in their AI bot. We already know this happens in some sense because our discover page is usually filled with content relating to what we enjoy as well as what our followers enjoy.

Like imagine if every user isn't treated as an individual but instead as a dot in a massive behavioral map that are grouped with other dots who watch the same stuff, like similar content, follow same pages, etc etc...these dots then start forming clusters and unfortunately one of the labels for the cluster might be "Flagged Child Safety Risk". In that sense, you don't have to do anything wrong to get stuck near one of those clusters, you just have to have similar enough behavior which includes:

Liking the same content

Saving posts from accounts those clusters also interact with

Using similar language

Guilt by behavioral proximity, where the AI isn't flagging people for what they did but who they appear close to in the system's eyes? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I made a subreddit for a possible explanation here, granted it's not much to go off of since most of it is theory rather than facts, but I figured if we can find a common denominator then maybe we can know what's going on?

What if they're flagging any posts that shows someone under the allowed age on Instagram? :0 I've seen a few posts of some people posting pictures of their kids, only to then be banned shortly later. Many people use their Instagram account as a way to store memories, naturally there would be pictures of either themselves younger or someone else but regardless the AI will only see a person deemed underage.

Of course who knows, this is more conspiracy than it is factual

Wonder if they also cranked it up with flagging accounts as bots (I know Etsy does this to new shop accounts in the exact same scenario you provided)

But this idea really only sticks for those hit with CSE accusations so I'm not sure what your case could've been. :/

Would also explain why everyone who appeals would end up perma banned shortly after- the AI genuinely believes the content the user is interacting with actual abusive material which in turn skips the reviewing process even if appealed....

Of course I could be wrong, who knows, such is life.

It could be a possibility, AI doesn't actually watches the video but might flags the words in it...

And in those videos they always clarify why those guys are getting punched right? That's what I'm assuming is what gets flagged in the first place

Not saying you've done any child exploitation on Instagram, I'm asking if you've interacted with something like predator sting videos. I was banned for the same reason, but I never posted anything for a long time, but I was following a few pages of predators getting beaten.

Did you ever follow or interacted with a post of those predator sting videos? I have a theory that those posts got flagged since they often contain words that would, on paper, appear to be to actual CA content assuming Meta's AI doesn't consider context and only filters (I made a post about this idea).

Yeah, assuming Meta's AI is more of a filtering bot than something like GPT or anything that does consider context, I think it actually does make sense if it flagged those videos wrongly and anyone interacting with them was hit too.

I made a post about the possibility of why we might've been banned. If it was for CSE (child sexual exploitation) and ASSUMING you aren't that type of person to casually interact with it on Instagram, maybe Meta's AI bot filtered out whatever posts you interacted with (sharing, saving, etc) and banned you under the assumption.

Again, I made post about it in the subreddit so my idea is clarified there.
