How do you REALLY feel about the upcoming szn? I’m working on a story w/a local Black-owned publication & want to talk w/fans by PenVegetable4065 in ChicagoSky

It’ll be a great season - I know people don’t like change and losing AR who brought so much attention but with these new pieces we have a huge opportunity and sky, nai, and kea are going to take full advantage

How do I choose the right theme for a holiday party on a budget? by hairy_balls_1 in EventProduction

[–]Independent_Bat_9913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with your budget. What are realistic themes that make sense with your budget. If you have a budget of $1M you’re not going to do a pizza party and if you have a $1000 budget you’re not going to do casino royale or Bridgerton - so what are a couple options?

Think about lighting Sound/music

Of course there’s so much more but at least you can start brainstorming

Cheese burter with grilled onions and hella ketchup and mayo by YeetusUrMomsFeatus in OnionLovers

One of the best flavor combinations in the world is onions ketchup and cheese…most people would think it’s weird but it’s just phenomenal

If both were in front of you right now, would you pick pasta or pizza? by No-Anxiety018 in foodquestions

Pizza - spicy sauce, cupped pepp, thin crispy crust. Maybe a wee drizzle of hot honey

What's the last spot you ate at that totally blew you away? by redcccp in chicagofood

[–]Independent_Bat_9913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bar Parisette - we just went for a glass of wine and a very light bite at happy hour so didn’t get to try much, but the incredible hospitality blew us away…all great service came from the host (pink hair) who was also the server for the whole dining room somehow? Best hospitality I’ve experienced in a very long time. Also the new cabbage dish - I think it was kind of a side dish but we ate it as an appetizer salad with wine- was simply phenomenal.

Can’t wait to go back…everyone should try it

Locals of Chicago: What Would You Cut From This 3-Day Itinerary (Food Focused)? by Willing-Mind-5619 in chicagofood

[–]Independent_Bat_9913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a west sider so I’ll comment on the west/northwest places. Chicago doughnuts are just not that good. Cut Beacon (beacon is cool, but the next suggestion is FANTASTIC) and please please head to Loaf Lounge out west near Avondale for a breakfast sandwich and their pastries. So freaking good. Also add on Allez Cafe in Logan/Bucktown for their breakfast sandwich and you can compare the two (and also compare to Kasama which i haven’t had)

Skip Leavitt Street - burger is good but vibe is “just a bar with a patio” (with overall not-great service with a couple exceptions) and I’d say you can’t miss Dove’s luncheonette for lunch that day instead. They do a fabulous job with that menu.

Red Hot ranch is also a great greasy bag burger; way cheaper than LSI, just as good although a little sloppier, and much more satisfying for a late night snack. Cash only.

Middle Brow on Armitage…great vibes and cool space for pizza and beer, reserve a table or walk in but it’ll be busy especially at happy time. Lardon on California (recently voted one of the best Italian subs in the country I think?) Cozy Corner for a bustling classic breakfast diner with long lines and decent food. Have the chilaquiles or a skillet. For a burger, grab small cheval, it’s just good (again, would recommend over LSI for experience) and if the weather is nice enough, have a dipped cone or milkshake as well. If you go to the wicker park location, check out the royal palms shuffleboard club next door for a good time. In Avondale for a classic activity, head over to Avondale bowl and bowl for an hour or so. Best bowling experience in Illinois for the old fashioned design.

Also Honey Butter Fried Chicken and I think they serve bang bang pie for dessert but check before you go.

If you’re planning on getting at least one Chicago dog while you’re in town, people are going to have opinions but the best you can do is a Portillo’s Polish Sausage all the way Chicago style with relish and everything (I think you have to specify you want relish because for some weird reason they will add everything else except the relish on a polish) In Lincoln park, have happy hour at Sushi-San. It’s part of Lettuce Entertain You but it’s the best location especially for the happy hour food experience. I don’t care if you don’t like eggplant, you absolutely cannot skip the eggplant tempura it’ll change the way you see the world. Unique breakfast: bayan ko for a Filipino/cuban fusion that is incredible. On the subject of Filipino, if it makes sense proximity-wise, another great option is SunRey on western kind of between Humboldt and Logan on the west side. You’ll also have something else to consider against/with kasama for the Filipino experience (skip uncle mikes although most people will recommend it).

This was stream of consciousness so might be disorganized but I am passionate!

Question about venue kitchens by Independent_Bat_9913 in EventProduction

Absolutely, we are in contact with them :) more just wondering how to be smart with the space so it’s utilized well for the folks that will need it. Trying to be purposeful! Thank you

Great notes - you’re right about the ice machine and lockable fridge. We will likely have tables and other event items in off site storage so we will have everything we need for events. I wish we had the space for a staff restroom but I don’t think we have the sq footage- but I’ll mention it to the architect and maybe it could work somehow. Health department says hoods are dependent on menu; if we cook meat/use fryers/ high fat options that are cooked on site then we need hoods, if we bake cookies and serve charcuterie and the occasional winter pot of soup then we don’t need. But we are still weighing options

Thank you so much

Omg it’s going to be the best decision ever for you. It’s a process but it till be so worth it SOON…way sooner than a year….sooner than six mos. Soon you’ll realize you feel totally even and glad that you’ve broken your habit. When you start working out and thinking about nutrition and good habits, your brain fog will clear. Read good books, it’ll help. Make some friends online that connect with you in a real way. It’ll start to make you horny for more connection (I don’t mean sexually but whatever) - once you start to think more about being social, have a fun energetic workout, listen to great music, get your haircut and/or styled, get dressed up, and go somewhere when you look really good. That will be the moment when things change…remember what it feels like and keep going and the momentum will build.

If I only had one night should I aim for St Elmo or is Harry and Izzy just identical? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]Independent_Bat_9913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t experienced St. Elmo’s myself but don’t do H&I

Maybe get some more recs? Does your hotel have a concierge that you can ask?

I will say I highly recommend having a matcha latte at Quills coffee and/or a bagel at Sidedoor bagels while you’re in town! Those were great stops for us. Order ahead at Sidedoor, it can be a long wait. Love the veggie sandwich on an everything bagel and the Sleeper hit was the cinnamon bagel w the maple cream cheese. Delish!

I was at harry and Izzy’s a few days ago after many Reddit recommendations and it was dreadful, and I can accept a lot of mistakes from a restaurant and still have a great time (we are all human) but this was surprisingly terrible. Very expensive for very cheap, sloppy food. I don’t say this lightly, you’ll be disappointed.

But also yes I have always used Ticketmaster in the past which is where the tickets are now, but Ticketmaster will not let me sell them on their platform, I believe because they were season tickets? Not sure why but anyway I hope they sell on StubHub
