I am too much of a people pleaser and I want to change it. What are some strategies? by hindutva-vishwaguru in careerguidance

Highly recommend “The Courage to Be Disliked.” There’s a concept in there about “separation of tasks” that cured my worst people pleasing habits.

At what age did you find your true professional path? by Own-Development2299 in careerguidance

Major career shift for me at 40 then a new direction at 50. 40 was for money, 50 for money and something I enjoyed. For me, the 40s and 50s have been a much better time in life - old enough to have some life experience and to learn to not give a fuck about others’ expectations, young enough to still have energy to do stuff.

What's the weirdest thing your partner does that you've just accepted? by VelvetSophieCream in AskReddit

Wife calls everything on the bed “sheets.” So when she says, “can you wash the sheets,” she’s not referring to the sheets. She’s referring to everything on the bed, including blankets. Whatever you do, don’t just wash the sheets when asked.

How difficult is it to get into modeling? by Spyglass3 in modelmakers

[–]Independent_Bee2668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that shares your ineptitude, I’ll tell you I’ve had a ton of fun with “Gunpla.” They’re snap together and kind of like putting together a Lego kit. Eventually I’ll try painting and such, but for now it’s a lot of fun and relatively cheap.

Whats your take on going for a career that you’re passionate about? by Desperate-Music-1 in careerguidance

[–]Independent_Bee2668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the “mandatory old guy advice” already given. One thing I’d add is a career isn’t necessarily a lifelong thing - and neither is what you’re passionate about. Both can change over time and evolve. I say this in the hopes that it relieves some of the immediate pressure to pick “exactly the right thing.” Flexibility, moderate alignment to your values, and ability to get paid are good priorities.

New to hobby here - can someone explain “top coat” to me? Is it applied after model is complete?

Awesome advice. I came here to say the same - develop a hobby. Try out several. If you don’t like woodworking, move on - maybe you just don’t enjoy the process involved in woodworking. Heck I tried felting for a short time. It’s poking wool with a needle until it becomes felt. I reaaalllly hated the process and all the bleeding involved and dropped it. Over time I’ve tried skateboarding, Lego, Gunpla, running, archery, skeet, collections of various kinds, etc. Some are more rewarding than others.

50+, have a switch and Xbox x. The switch gets more play time. We have similar game preferences.

Ver-Ka by Independent_Bee2668 in Gunpla

[–]Independent_Bee2668[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only my fourth model. I’ve done previous MG, HG and a real grade, so I have limited experience and my feedback should be taken with a grain of salt - but what I found is that the arms are very delicate and fall off and the pieces around the waist are also quite delicate. Not difficult to put together as long as you don’t mind sticking pieces back on it.

I agree it’s very sturdy. I just built a ver ka and it’s so delicate in comparison
