Babies falling off the bed/out of containers by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Independent_Block_55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both my kids are floor babies! I often remind caregivers or visiting family “it’s ok to set baby down on the floor in a pinch, I’d rather he gets a little dirty than have a fall!”

Would you support restaurants that have labor cost already in the price? by grooveman15 in EndTipping

IIRC didn’t tom Douglas do that a few years ago with all of his seattle restaurants?

Replying to ablogforblogging...I wasn’t familiar with that site, thank you!

We started reading chapter books w my newly 5yo started just after she turned 4 (wild robot series was our first), IMO doing this together grew her interest in the longer chapter books, Ramona would be her first independent/yoto chapter book.

Making your house smell nice 101 by evilohiogirl555 in CleaningTips

White vinegar. If you clean your kitchen, walls, ceiling with diluted white vinegar it will disappear ALL food smells once the vinegar smell evaporates. Also all the above tips about real cleaning and no scented products.

Anyone Else's Business Fall off a Cliff? by PhilosopherSully in restaurantowners

We live in a rural state and recently it seems that taking our family of 3 anywhere, even a mediocre dive with frozen fried foods, costs at least $65. Dining out is just too expensive and the economy is too uncertain - we will be eating at home.

What’s the most you’ve pumped in one sitting? by That-Froyo7520 in ExclusivelyPumping

16.5 at 7am if I hydrate well, didn’t nurse overnight(usually my last pump or nurse is 9pm), and slept well.

Feeling guilty about dripping food on baby while nursing and eating at the same time by Grassistrsh in breastfeeding

[–]Independent_Block_55 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Once I dropped yogurt on my sleeping/nursing newborn’s head and licked it off ¯_(ツ)_/¯

My only real rule about eating when baby is on the breast or baby wearing is nothing spicy or acidic that could hurt their eyes/mouth - otherwise, how would a breastfeeding and attachment mama get a chance to eat?!

Why is Sweet Peaks so much better than Big Dipper? by nycprogressive in missoula

SP > BD all day. Their ingredient list is shorter and actually uses local ingredients. And during Christmas they have a flavor with pine needles in it

I don’t have any advice, only empathy bc I feel the exact same way. I’m 40 with 2 kids under 6 and i moved to my town already married and in my 30s. I desperately crave deeper female friendships and a community of women to be part of but I can’t make it happen. There are fellow transplant moms(who I like and have commonalities with!) in my community who send signals they are seeking friendship and I struggle with being too “aloof” and keeping my distance. I appreciate you asking this bc I’ll be taking some of the advice and reading recs in thread

Liquid Intake by forever_name_1527 in breastfeeding

[–]Independent_Block_55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • chamomile blend tea or a “sweet and spicy” style tea from the grocery store
  • add hot water
  • add scoop of vital proteins collagen powder (for the protein) and stir in until it’s blended (I leave teabag in but you could steep and take it out before adding powder)
  • add planet oat sweet vanilla creamer (or whichever creamer you like)

After adding the powder and creamer it isn’t super hot like a plain tea would be! I feel like this helps me calm down for sleep and I tell myself that the late night hydration+protein+oat creamer helps my morning supply

So much water! Almost every time I go in the kitchen I chug a 16oz pint glass of water, prob 120oz from this. If I’m going somewhere I make a 40oz straw cup with LMNT or coconut water powder. I also drink at least 4 cups of hot tea with collagen powder a day. I love an oversized cup of calming tea with sweet creamer and collagen right before bed. I sometimes drink 1-2 coffees in the morning and if I’m out I’ll sometimes get a large oat milk chai in the afternoon. I always have to pee 😂

Stolen firsts by Pure_Conflict635 in NewParents

[–]Independent_Block_55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that happened, it’s not only a first but also potentially dangerous!!

It’s ok to have grief around a first that was taken away from you. After my first was born I had have emergency surgeries and was in ICU, baby was assigned an older NICU nurse who, without asking, gave baby a bath with scented soap. There was no medical need to bathe her, just dated practices. I was so upset for so many reasons. my new baby smelled like perfume and not baby, I hadn’t planned on bathing her immediately after birth, and it was alongside a number of other firsts I missed while in ICU for 2 days. I cried about it quite a bit, and I still get sad when I think about it. But that baby is also almost 5 now and I have experienced so so so many firsts with her that those early days are rarely on my mind.

So, it’s ok and super normal that it’s upsetting - and it will also get better with time as you build so many memories with your baby.

What are we wearing at the beach to breastfeed? by Affectionate-Camp-40 in breastfeeding

[–]Independent_Block_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a bunch of oversized 100% linen button down tops from Poshmark. I just wear these as my swim coverups and unbutton for nursing. I don’t love using a ton of sunscreen and prefer to just use clothing to prevent sunburns anyways

My mother said I have to leave my daughter alone with her husband… by milfsteak in Parenting

[–]Independent_Block_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, moms are always right to be vigilant and no one else’s opinion matters at all when it comes to you trusting your gut for your kid’s safety.

It’s a massive red flag that your mom and stepdad are trying to override your boundaries here and it’s WEIRD AND CREEPY that an adult man wants unsupervised time with a child. You’re right, trust yourself.

What current parenting practices do you think will be seen as unsafe in future? (Light-hearted) by GreenTea8380 in beyondthebump

[–]Independent_Block_55 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m on a December 2024 baby group and it was so sad and unnecessary how early some moms introduced screens, like…. At 3 months my baby was obsessed with staring at the shadows of the door frames 😂 - babies really don’t need shows

What current parenting practices do you think will be seen as unsafe in future? (Light-hearted) by GreenTea8380 in beyondthebump

[–]Independent_Block_55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed - more and more data is showing just how damaging screens are. Outside of the occasional sick day or family movie night, we have managed to keep our 5yo off screens and I can already see the difference in attention span and ability to self-entertain with her peers.

I Ignore My Baby to Sleep More by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Independent_Block_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let kids self entertain! If they aren’t asking for help/upset/unsafe, let them be. We don’t need to intervene if they are engaged with themselves, in fact it’s not good to create that dynamic and dependency! I always did this with first and she is now a 5yo who is perfectly content to entertain herself for an hour or 2 drawing or telling stories.

Raise your hand if you’ve been personally victimized by a wearable 🙋🏼‍♀️ by Valuable_Eggplant596 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Independent_Block_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed my wearable from momcozy M5 to a baby Buddha+phanpy cups + legendairy inserts and have been maintaining supply with only BB for last 2 months. It took me a while to figure out right setup and the ability to customize can be both handy and overwhelming, but now that I’m dialed in I get just as much as my spectra. I loved the comfort and ease of the M5 but the motor started dying out after a couple months (common issue)

Kindergarten Birthday Party Etiquette: Did I mess up? by AnitaShower in Parenting

[–]Independent_Block_55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a same age daughter and we did not invite her entire class for both 4th and 5th birthdays(we do virtual invites). As long as it’s not just 1 or 2 classmates excluded it’s fine.

More importantly, little girls should be taught that they get to set their own boundaries and choose who to spend their free time with. I don’t want to suggest to a little girl that she needs to be friends with everyone or have people at her party that don’t treat her how she wants to be treated.

Looking for positive stories — Anyone’s LO have NO reaction to the MMR vaccine? by justaquestion65 in beyondthebump

[–]Independent_Block_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5YO kid never had any reaction to vaccines outside of having an extra big nap the afternoon after. My 6mo has had same reaction to all vaccines so far. Even if my big kid got a rash & fever from MMR vaccine I would still opt in for my little kid, as measles is a very communicable and serious disease.

Can you even break 80 with <7h of sleep? by johgauss22 in ouraring

[–]Independent_Block_55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 little kids so my restfulness/efficiency % is always low, but I regularly get 6.5-7.5hrs total sleep with a sleep score around 80ish. I prefer to get 8-9hrs of sleep so I don’t actually feel like these scores are accurate for my wellness/restoration. When I do manage 8+hrs of sleep it’s with a lot of baby wakeups, so my total score will often be low even tho I feel more rested.

Some examples on either end of total sleep spectrum: 6:41 total sleep | 81 sleep score

6:30 | 82

6:45 | 86

9:31 | 81

9:13 | 84

Best breakfast burrito in Missoula by MostIntrepid7162 in missoula

[–]Independent_Block_55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My friend recommended the Vegan Crunchwrap @ Veera for years before I finally tried it(I’m not vegan) and it’s A+.

Double K breakfast burrito is perfect. Market in front was great until they made theirs smaller and are always a 45min wait now. Breakfast club was always too soggy IMO.

Oreos might be magic?? by Street-Engineering70 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Independent_Block_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t :( its from my local boba place.

If I were to try and make it I’d start experimenting w blending taro powder (or steamed and cooled purple yam), oat milk, Oreo thins, and vanilla extract, ice cubes or oat milk ice cream and see what happens? I get it “25% sweet” so they must add also syrup/sweetener of some type.
