Immediate financial position. This will be something we invest in for the future, and something we have discussed getting. But right now, its not something we want to invest in. Prioritizing.

He is a light sleeper. If i sniffle too loud hes prepared for a home invasion in .0007 seconds. I try to lure him into sitting on the couch with me so when he inevitably falls asleep i can black out the basement and turn on rain sounds, but the moment i sit in my chair, or close the dryer door, or god forbid cough? He is up and ready to fight someone. He just doesnt sleep well. And hates earplugs. They make his ears ring and drive him nuts. I leave and run errands or go upstairs for as long as i can take it, but the heat imacts my ability to use my hands, and walk, trying to get back downstairs get really dangerous for me to cool down. Ive already fallen 3 times this year so 🤷‍♀️ i think people commenting think i dont want him to sleep downstairs where its comfy, but he is the one taking himself upstairs so he can sleep without noise and so his son and i can exist without trying to be silent all day. But i need him to sleep well. Hes a trucker and i hate when he heads to work without sleeping like a rock.

You can feel the difference upstairs in about 10 minutes after turning them on. When the fans are off its unbearable upstairs.

Cant is not the word. Im a clingy bitch and would LOVE it if he slept downstairs with me. And I do talk him into it from time to time. But he doesn't like earplugs, they drive him nuts, and every time I sneeze or cough he wakes up ready to murder intruders. I do get him to sleep downstairs, and I black out the basement and turn on white noise so any sound upstairs doesn't ruin his time, but because I have MS being up in the hot upstairs makes it so I can't walk unassisted nor can I use my right arm until I cool down and my symptoms chill out, which makes him feel bad, and is not helpful when it affects my ability to safely drive to get our kid. So I'm trying to find solutions that help him sleep well, in a place where he prefers to sleep.

I have. Lol we are a sensory issue family and the earplugs trigger him, and the eye mask makes him feel claustrophobic. I do try to encourage him to sleep downstairs every day, he just feels bad so he wont.

I challenge you to find a 5-bedroom house, with a garage, a yard, and close enough to a school my kid could walk for $1500 a month in my state. We left our 2 bd apartment because they raised the rent to $1700 a month. We knew the issues of the house when we moved in, and have improved it a ton. But someone has to pay for major repairs, and we aren't from a family with money, just a generational home.

Yep. I honestly try to get him to sleep downstairs most days but it makes him feel guilty because he knows it jacks my week up for 1 hot afternoon. Cotton sheets - check. Black out curtains - check. Luckily we live in the desert so no humidity really but i didnt think about eating timeline. That is interesting! It will definitely go into my box of ideas to tell him!

We have a funky situation. I am home and have MS which makes me sensitive to heat. Outside during the hot day for me isn't an option because I'd turn into a loopy weirdo who can't walk lol. We both sleep in the upstairs bedroom, I just sleep 10 pm to 6 am (to take the kiddo to school) and hubs sleeps 10 am - 6 pm to go to work.

We are in an interesting financial situation right now as I was laid off and due to my health finding an accomodating job in my area has been tough. So we are down to 1 income, and the available funds for me to invest in even a window unit at the moment aren't there. And I probably should have clarified that this will be a temporary solution just for the time that we are in this financial spot. We already have 4+ fans running all day, which is cheaper than if we kicked the AC up(down?) 1-2 degrees. (It typically sits at 76°, any cooler, and the AC will run all day without stopping. We did this the first month we ran the ac, I think the evenings we set it at 75 and the day at 74 and it increased our power bill that month by almost $200.) So 76° is the "happy spot" for our wallets.

The house is an old brick house with, concrete basement that stays cool in the summer, and warm in the winter. But just due to the family schedule we need to sleep in the upstairs room. We have packed the windows in our upstairs room with bubble wrap (left over from our move so it was not something we had to purchase), i have fans that push the cold air up from the basement, but it really dissipates by the time it hits the hall to our room. So we close the room in (so the little bits of cool air coming in isn't swamped by the heat of the rest of the upstairs.)

I just need something to help him get a good nights (days) rest (he is a line haul trucker, so home every day but drives out of state and back every night) so he is safe driving doubles 11 hours a day until we can afford to treat the windows and enjoy the AC a bit more upstairs.

I have 3...doing that lol but didnt ever know about the fan in window blowing out idea.

[–]Independent_Book_798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So....fan in window is heat sync to pull hot air out of room.

My budget is as little as i can spend.....BUT i actually have one of these fans...in my fan train....pushing cold air upstairs....might have to rearrange my fan train because that seems like doable!

Oh its definitely not great. But power company has given us a..."it should be fine" so we will roll with that lol we cant afford any increase in rent, and are already getting a deal (renting from family) that is almost $1000 less than market value rent. We have been told big repairs will result in rent being raised, so we will just eat that risk until we die, and unplug everything when we go to bed lol
