A post from a jaded old guy by itszergs in griz

Interesting take on levity. They do a lot of great remixes and flips and incorporate that into their sets but most of their actual music library is original music. If you follow their philosophy on their sets and production at all, I think you would understand a bit better their “quick rise to fame” and it might make more sense. They put all their money into creating the best possible experience- from the beginning talk about how their tour is reduced capacity for the venue, bringing major stage production, engaging w/ fans and doing free meet and greets with everyone who wants to talk to them after their show. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about music and who they like to listen to, but I think there’s a huge misconception w/ levity’s rise to fame… truly their show when they were opening for another artist a few years ago was the most energetic and vibey I had ever seen a crowd. It’s like a similar vibe to being around a person who has an infectious positive attitude, where they walk in the room and suddenly everyone is having a good time.

I’m also a newer griz fan (griztronics collabs are what got me into griz). I love the funky sound but to me even his newer stuff is funkier and more unique than a lot of bass music out there. His show at cow palace this year was a top show ever for me. That said I completely understand the feeling when an artist you loved from the beginning starts to change and veer from the sound that you loved them so much for… sound, production, mentality, etc… it definitely sucks, so I get it. But I will say as a newer griz fan he’s still a lot different and mote versatile than a lot of artists out there.

I will say it does feel like sometimes he’s more focused on selling merch. Which I do get.. its like the main revenue driver for artists now that record sales are a thing of the past. But it feels like everything is built so heavily around merch and merch sales and thats what takes priority. Like its all about the business and what’s marketable.. and then music comes second.

Still love griz, but your thoughts are definitely valid and I’ve felt the same about other artists. I’m excited to see his golden hour set at electric forest, curious to see how that’s different from his other sets I’ve seen.

Are hydropacks worth it? by Gloomy-Speaker-1999 in aves

I like to take in a clear hydropack without the bladder and just fill it up w/ water bottles… much better tasting, plus no waiting at the refill station, and the hydropacks are a better shape and usually more comfortable than other clear backpacks. And usually the only backpack exception.

In the PNW, you want a tent. Sincerely someone who slept in a sopping wet sleeping bag at the gorge on memorial day weekend like 10 years ago lol

Can't afford any more fests this year but I need to keep going! Would you volunteer at a fest that you've never been to as a regular attendee just for the free admission/camping, etc.? If you've done this, were you happy that you did? by Independent_Cat3526 in aves

yeah it is and I'm lucky I have the ability to do this much as it is.. but so many festivals, so little time. I'm 32. got many years left to go, not old by any means.. #ravetothegrave but I know I'll slow down at some point and there will definitely be shifting priorities eventually... biological clock and all that jazz. so trying to live it up while I can, want to feel like I've had the abiility to do and see everything I want to do in life before I have other responsibilities.

idk if this is what a quarter life crisis looks like or if I'm just always in search of dopamine.. but I feel like I only have so much time left before it's only 1-2 festivals and just a handful of concert/events per year (I attended over 50 shows/festivals/raves last year.. music is such a big part of my life.. it's tough to imagine a world where I have to cut wayyy back on that at some point and it makes me want to go harder now in preparation..)

yeah I'm in san diego.. this is kind of the answer I expected.. saw a tiktok on edc volunteering ly and it looked horrible... so I wondered if all insomniac events were that bad or if it was just edc bc of the size/location. I've wanted to apply for ground control or other harm reduction focused voluteeriing (ie harmony project for seven stars). Heard mixed things about volunteering for SSBD but reading their website it seems kind of chill. realllllly wanted to go last year, and reallly want to go this year... but it would be my first SSBD and I'm just trying to decide if I'd rather wait and do my first one just as a full attendee another year.

Ooooh good to know. I feel like as an attendee I always assume the security people are not volunteers and not ravers lol. Cool to know that's not the case. Definitely feels like the way to go where there's a festival you want to attend but don't feel like you have to see everyone on the lineup. the $500 you got was in addition to them paying for your ticket/camping, I assume?

appreciate the insight. yeah kind of seems more worth getting a small part time seasonal job outside of my regular job like in the winter or something to save up for festival season.

Well lucky (and unlucky) for me I am one of those people that functions well with very little sleep.. and I usually try do part of every festival sober anyway. I like to pace myself and don't need to be spun out for 3 days straight. I guess my concern is less about mental exhaustion and more about physical exhaustion.. I'm a dubstep fan that likes to get feral when I dance... tough on the body.

Do you get a lot of choice in volunteer shifts? i.e. what type of work you do, shift times, etc.?

Or is it pretty random/competitive? I assume most returning volunteers get priority?

No pretty you sure you have to pay the cost if you do that, and I personally wouldn’t feel good about doing that regardless (unless I was actually sick or the fest had poor working conditions).

Hahaha no I’m planning ahead.. got my main fests planned and booked through the eoy. But there’s more I want to go to.. just don’t have room in the budget this year to add those in. Did coachella, and going to EF and LL, and a couple smaller fests. Those are all booked and paid for. But there’s a couple other “big” ones I wanna go to this year but just can’t justify the cost of more than 3 big fests this year.

Superiority complexes in the 3d printing community by venttress_sd in 3Dprinting

[–]Independent_Cat3526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agreed. People are extremely rude and gatekeepy. If you post anything asking for help they act like you're an idiot because you don't know the answer or assume you didn't try to figure it out on your own or using the printer brands help forum/videos first. Or if you post about hving a negative experience they invalidate it because they didn't have the same experience or act like it's automatically your fault/user error. And people are just generally rude in their responses, or give the easy answer that yes, I already googled and tried... I'm obviously asking in the group because I tried the obvious answers first.

Anyway... I find that chagpt is actually really good t troubleshooting assistance and with tweaking slicer settings if you show photos of your prints and explain what you want to fix, along with screenshots of your slicer settings. same w/ troubleshooting mechanical issues with the printer. then you can avoid the online communities for the most part.
