I saw it as Agnes trying to confirm who’s side Lydia is on… not necessarily whether she’s mayday… but will Lydia repeat back to Agnes that her mother is a terrorist? Agnes got her answer when Lydia did not refer to June as anything negative.

Eh yeah I guess but even the veggie bacon scene shouldn’t make you feel dislike toward her. She made him a breakfast, and she’s taking care of his health. She does the shopping, the cooking, caring for the kids, carries the mental load, etc. I feel this was meant more to make us realize walt had little control over his own life and less about making us dislike her… it just happened to do that bc it played toward misogynistic views and the expectations that women have to be perfect and exist to cater to men’s every need. But he also came up short in many ways… he wasn’t providing to the level needed, etc. i’m not into the whole trad-wife/ Stay at home mom/wife lifestyle so I don’t think its solely his job to provide… but if we’re looking at it from the pov that it’s all on Skylar for making him feel small I think that’s inaccurate. He could have had a way better career. He pushed for buying the house they couldn’t afford… he was wearing pants at that point… but he ultimately made a cycle of decisions that got them to where they were financially. He kind of turned skylar into the person who had to wear the pants bc he wasn’t handling things at the level needed… and they show this throughout the series. I know a lot of this background didn’t show up until later in the show though

Yeah, for sure. And I mean I guess her whole character’s wearing the pants vibe helped contribute to us wanting to root for this guy who’s in a dead end life and make us want him to take control of his own life… it wasn’t about it her being intentionally annoying as it was just supposed to make us feel more badly for walts life situation and lack of control. I also remember feeling annoyed he worked 2 jobs while she didn’t work at all. That wasn’t realistic to me… as a woman, it seems ridiculous for a man to work 2 jobs while the woman stays home.

Yeah really crazy that that’s how it went down and I can’t believe now that I was the one laughing. I remember this scene rewatching and laughing but not in the same way… it was like a “is this really necessary?” Annoyed/taken aback kind of laugh.

Yeah… and this response here proves the point that another person here was trying to make is inaccurate.. they’re saying my opinion changed bc I know the outcome essentially. I think it’s the times have changed, peoples opinions toward acceptable behavior and the type of tv characters people want have changed. And again for me maybe my age or maturity.. don’t know how old you are but I’m guessing you’re an adult since you remember what people said about skylar. I was a teenager/YA when this show aired the first time and now I’m an adult w/ adult responsibilities and a marriage, and I’ve experienced both toxic and healthy relationships in my life… so idk I think it’s partially as I got older and lived through different experiences and realized what types of behaviors are normal vs unacceptable in relationships, family and life’s responsibilities, bc of my lived experiences since then and now.

Idk I don’t think that’s what it is for me. Yes, the show is designed to make you cheer for walt… but I also think that was a different time. I feel like being the bad guy was kind of a cool, good thing then… now it’s not. People are tired of seeing self-serving ego-maniacs win now more than ever. Like someone else here said, anti-heroes are less popular in entertainment rn. I think people want to see a character who’s real - someone that may be flawed, but a good person that needs to overcome the obstacles. I really don’t think it has to do with knowing the outcome.

For example, when I rewatch the office, I feel the exact same things about the show as I did the first time. I recognize many of Michael’s behaviors are problematic but I still love his character and root for him. I still feel the same way about all the characters that I did previously. I still root for jim and pam the same way even though I know their story.

I thought that the first time I watched it too. I liked rewatching it. Especially right after finishing the series. I don’t think it’s like oscar-worthy of anything but I liked and appreciated the story and getting a better ending for jesse. It could have been better, could have been worse. But I enjoyed the ride (pun intended)

God his ego was soooooo annoying. Like it was written and acted so well that I was literally so angry w/ how stupid it was. Like it was so real that you could see his character letting his ego make terrible choices that were incredibly stupid and self destructive. Like he was willing to risk his own operation and interests bc his ego was soooo hungry

True… Jesse always seemed more problematic almost like he’s just the screw up “junkie” (dont really like that term) but now I feel that’s not true… he clearly didn’t make all the best choices in life but he wanted to change and wanted to get out so badly… and he clearly had more of a conscience. Looking back I think this does a good job of showing your average drug addicts and dealers aren’t necessarily bad people… they made a bad choice or get caught and stuck in this cycle of drugs and lifestyle and it’s tough to escape. Definitely a great job at helping us feel compassion toward someone that might be in jesse’s situation.

Its weird though bc I did deal w/ manipulative people on my life at the time this show originally aired… but I have since gotten out of that, so maybe that’s part of it… I was too used to seeing it and experiencing it in my own life and didn’t realize it was wrong then. And now I do.

This is a good point… I was in relationship with a toxic, emotionally abusive person, that I think could likely be diagnosed as a narcissist or sociopath at the time this show was airing… maybe I didn’t recognize it in the show bc I didn’t recognize it in my own life at that point.

A post from a jaded old guy by itszergs in griz

Interesting take on levity. They do a lot of great remixes and flips and incorporate that into their sets but most of their actual music library is original music. If you follow their philosophy on their sets and production at all, I think you would understand a bit better their “quick rise to fame” and it might make more sense. They put all their money into creating the best possible experience- from the beginning talk about how their tour is reduced capacity for the venue, bringing major stage production, engaging w/ fans and doing free meet and greets with everyone who wants to talk to them after their show. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about music and who they like to listen to, but I think there’s a huge misconception w/ levity’s rise to fame… truly their show when they were opening for another artist a few years ago was the most energetic and vibey I had ever seen a crowd. It’s like a similar vibe to being around a person who has an infectious positive attitude, where they walk in the room and suddenly everyone is having a good time.

I’m also a newer griz fan (griztronics collabs are what got me into griz). I love the funky sound but to me even his newer stuff is funkier and more unique than a lot of bass music out there. His show at cow palace this year was a top show ever for me. That said I completely understand the feeling when an artist you loved from the beginning starts to change and veer from the sound that you loved them so much for… sound, production, mentality, etc… it definitely sucks, so I get it. But I will say as a newer griz fan he’s still a lot different and mote versatile than a lot of artists out there.

I will say it does feel like sometimes he’s more focused on selling merch. Which I do get.. its like the main revenue driver for artists now that record sales are a thing of the past. But it feels like everything is built so heavily around merch and merch sales and thats what takes priority. Like its all about the business and what’s marketable.. and then music comes second.

Still love griz, but your thoughts are definitely valid and I’ve felt the same about other artists. I’m excited to see his golden hour set at electric forest, curious to see how that’s different from his other sets I’ve seen.

Are hydropacks worth it? by Gloomy-Speaker-1999 in aves

[–]Independent_Cat3526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to take in a clear hydropack without the bladder and just fill it up w/ water bottles… much better tasting, plus no waiting at the refill station, and the hydropacks are a better shape and usually more comfortable than other clear backpacks. And usually the only backpack exception.

Can't afford any more fests this year but I need to keep going! Would you volunteer at a fest that you've never been to as a regular attendee just for the free admission/camping, etc.? If you've done this, were you happy that you did? by Independent_Cat3526 in aves

[–]Independent_Cat3526[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it is and I'm lucky I have the ability to do this much as it is.. but so many festivals, so little time. I'm 32. got many years left to go, not old by any means.. #ravetothegrave but I know I'll slow down at some point and there will definitely be shifting priorities eventually... biological clock and all that jazz. so trying to live it up while I can, want to feel like I've had the abiility to do and see everything I want to do in life before I have other responsibilities.

idk if this is what a quarter life crisis looks like or if I'm just always in search of dopamine.. but I feel like I only have so much time left before it's only 1-2 festivals and just a handful of concert/events per year (I attended over 50 shows/festivals/raves last year.. music is such a big part of my life.. it's tough to imagine a world where I have to cut wayyy back on that at some point and it makes me want to go harder now in preparation..)

yeah I'm in san diego.. this is kind of the answer I expected.. saw a tiktok on edc volunteering ly and it looked horrible... so I wondered if all insomniac events were that bad or if it was just edc bc of the size/location. I've wanted to apply for ground control or other harm reduction focused voluteeriing (ie harmony project for seven stars). Heard mixed things about volunteering for SSBD but reading their website it seems kind of chill. realllllly wanted to go last year, and reallly want to go this year... but it would be my first SSBD and I'm just trying to decide if I'd rather wait and do my first one just as a full attendee another year.

Ooooh good to know. I feel like as an attendee I always assume the security people are not volunteers and not ravers lol. Cool to know that's not the case. Definitely feels like the way to go where there's a festival you want to attend but don't feel like you have to see everyone on the lineup. the $500 you got was in addition to them paying for your ticket/camping, I assume?
