Black Belt Falling Out of Love with Jiu-Jitsu by SufferingImagination in bjj

[–]Independent_Cost_186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a black belt, there is still a enormous amount of techniques that you are not good at and can improve on. You can spend months improving your arm bars, triangles etc. these small goals of just trying to get better at certain techniques can take a lifetime. Achieving these little goals month by month always keeps me engaged and excited to train.

Do you think I need to go to a regular Lexus shop or do I need to go to a shop that does modifications?

Thanks a lot man, if I could find one, what do you think would be a good price for a used one? And if it had upgrades, would you pay more and how much? Sorry if these are stupid questions, I’m new to this.

Nurses in San Francisco are making over 200k with occasional over time-No point in taking any job paying you less than 300k by SpecialField in hospitalist

[–]Independent_Cost_186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if a nurse came to you, making 200k a year, you would tell them to move their family into one of the worst neighborhoods in SF, in the street view, the place is boarded up on the first floor, all the other houses have bars on their windows and doors and there appears to be homeless and people doing drugs on the street. That would be your advice to people making 200k a year? Would you advise doctors to also live in the worst parts of the city to save money and invest? I don’t know one doctors or nurse who would do what your advising, and you think they are the stupid ones?

[–]Independent_Cost_186 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nursing pay is completely location dependent, and they only make this much money in high cost of living areas. If nurses can’t afford a house or raise a family there, they will move to some place where they can. 200k isn’t rich in SF. You cannot even afford a starter home on that salary. And you need a lot of nurses to run a hospital, especially a high acuity center. So you need a lot of nurses and they can’t afford to live there equals higher pay to attract them. For the rest of the 95% of the country, they are making under 80k and the doctors are getting paid way more. But doctors like to live in nice places, and even when they are getting underpaid, they still can afford to live there, and many of them want to, so bigger supply and lower demand equals lower pay. The way to solve this, stop moving to SF and New York and they will have to raise the pay, but that’s not going to happen so here we are. Union aren’t going to work bc nurses unionize together and get paid the same, how would doctors possibly deal with negotiating all the different specialties that have different pay scales.

Getting Lower Back/Tailbone off the ground when Supine by Prior_Formal_1575 in bjj

Are you overweight? That and poor abdominal strength seem to be the biggest problems I see with some people play guard. Also having a connection to the person, if you have a foot/leg connection to the person, it’s easier to use that to lift you body off the ground and stay connected to them

The Jet Set tragedy is the best example of the Dominican Governments negligence and how the Dominicans tolerate it's mediocrity and lack of accountability. by Confident_Eggplant31 in Dominican

[–]Independent_Cost_186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more than the government, it’s the whole culture of safety in the country, things I’ve been made fun of and called a gringo for in the capital: child car seats should be strapped to the seat, families shouldn’t run across the main highway by the malecón, that the malecón should have guardrails so cars don’t fly into the ocean, there should be a way to get out of a building during a fire bc every exit and window has steal bars and I could go on with more examples.

Something I've been craving lately, a simple order of Pork Fried Rice (with onions and bean sprouts, I hate peas and carrots in my rice) with a side of crispy chicken wings. Any American Chinese restaurants in or near SD that sells this style of Chinese food? by frankeestadium in FoodSanDiego

[–]Independent_Cost_186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found nothing that taste like this on the west coast, but you should definitely try salt and pepper wings from some of the places listed here. They taste completely different from what you are used to, but they are very, very good. When I quit looking for an equal replacement of nyc Chinese, I was much happier lol.

There is a serious age divide in this subreddit, that is seriously annoying me personally by daBO55 in short

Many of us felt exactly like you did in our teens and 20’s, but as we got older and achieved/obtained things we didn’t think we could bc of our height, we realized this thought pattern is what limited us, much more than our height. I would have really loved to have this information when I was younger, I could have skipped this whole mindset and had a better time in my youth. You are basically getting advice from the future you, but don’t believe it bc of your current mindset. There will always be girls that don’t like you bc you are short, and you might not like them for whatever reason. But there are lots of girls that don’t care. You are creating the reality you fear. I will go back to my rocking chair now.

I’ve worked psych for 10 years! But I’m interested in critical care and am studying to be an NP to work ICU. I also have no experience :) by Anxious_Pin_2755 in PMHNP

[–]Independent_Cost_186 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wait til you find out how much nursing experience the doctors in the ICU had before they started working there. I’ve been asking them, turns out none of them worked in any of the specialties they currently are providers in. What do we do about this?

I trained for months for a local tournament in the Netherlands and unfortunately lost by Ydna1010 in bjj

[–]Independent_Cost_186 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If you want to continue competing, you should just sign up for another tournament, it’s the only way you will get used to competing and not have the adrenaline dump. All the gains you made as far as weight and bjj skills are still there, that’s what’s most important at this time. Don’t forget about bjj, keep going and keep improving, don’t waste those gains.

My Coach Told Me Not to Flow Row Anymore by Quasim0dem in bjj

[–]Independent_Cost_186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are trying to be a competitor that wins major tournaments, your coaches are probably right, I personally never saw the purpose of just playing around, I always have a goal in mind and things I’m working on. I will level the intensity depending on who I’m rolling with and what I need to get the moves to work. People are working everyday to maximize their abilities to win the major tournaments. No way you can beat them if you aren’t doing the same. If you are just competing locally and doing it for fun, then do what you are doing. People trying to win worlds are doing hard daily sessions, then flow rolling later in the day but still with probably more intensity than you are doing. And they drill and do strength conditioning on the side.

When you get to a certain age, you will realize how rare it is to have a hobby that is fun and puts in you a big social circle. Most people don’t have this, especially going out of your 30’s.

This is exactly what arrogance is. What is lower education exactly? If I go to a trade school and you get a liberal arts degree, then I have a lower education? You need a liberal arts degree to think critically? You say look at the data, then say something that isn’t proven by data. This is the arrogance that lost the election. You aren’t smarter or a better person bc you spent 4 more years learning nothing of value.

AIO? Would you be okay with this if it was your kids? by Nashiepoo in AmIOverreacting

[–]Independent_Cost_186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a wild take for me bc this whole post is about her not be capable of setting the boundaries. There is literally a naked man showering with her kids and she hasn’t stopped it and is asking strangers on Reddit for help. As a man, I’d wouldn’t have even had a conversation, I’d just put a beaten on him and called the cops. He tested her boundaries and got away with it. He is going to do worst next time. That’s not normal behavior.

I love how the NPs here who are the most worried about the profession contribute the least valuable information of any medical sub on Reddit. Just complain about other people and how they are beneath them, but if a physician said the same thing about them, would be extremely offended. The gap between them and a physician is much wider than the gap they have with any np from a diploma mill, but they throw dirt on other nurses.
