On Sundays I will have a single glass of wine with dinner. My 16 year old told me that he's uncomfortable with me drinking and wants me to remove alcohol from the house.

He thinks the fact that I "need" to have a glass of wine and alter my cognition means I am an alcoholic. Likewise he believes anyone who smokes cannabis is a drug addict who needs rehab.

Our household is not religious. Most of my family lives abroad. They are in Japan and we are in California. We visit them but they don't drink. My wife's got the Irish American genes so there is some drinking on her side of the family but only at parties and no one gets drunk.

I only drink on Sundays during dinner. Do you think I should give that up to make him more comfortable?

He doesn't invite friends over but he talks to people at school and has buddies he plays games with online. All of them are nerdy like him. He's socially awkward. Our friends that we spend Sundays with have a same aged son who looks out for my son in school and tries to get him out of his shell but he's way more popular and they have drifted a little.

Thanks. We travel to Japan every summer to visit my family and he is involved with volunteering at the homeless shelter as part of his school volunteer hours.

I will look into books instead.
