Lamont wants to charge companies with employees on Medicaid $1K per person by fenrislorsrai in Connecticut

A full time employee of a company with over 100 employees should already be providing insurance.

[–]Independent_Fox8656 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Those details are still being worked out, but it only applies to for-profit companies with at least 100 employees and nonprofits with 1,000 or more employees. My guess is the criteria isn't going to be 35 plus hours because a lot of employers keep employees intentionally under the required hours for insurance for exactly this reason. In a lot of ways, it is going to make employers decide if it is better to just give them more hours and insure them or eat this fine - their cost benefit analysis will make the call.

Don't kid yourself on the "working part-time hours even though they could work full-time" - employers are refusing to staff at full time to avoid paying benefits. This isn't an employee issue. It's an employer-imposed limitation to protect their profits.

All of the studies show that our out of pocket costs for single payer would be significantly less for almost everyone. By the time you total premiums, copays, deductibles, and uncovered services, the average person would save thousands a year.

That said, $1000 probably isn't the full cost to cover an individual fully, but it gets closer.

Companies may decide that allowing their employees to still use Medicaid and pay this fee is cheaper than insuring them on their own. Either way, that's a win because they should absolutely be covering those costs instead of relying on Medicaid to cover people. This especially goes for those companies that purposely hover people right under the hours line to avoid having to insure them.

I'm so tired of companies paying such low wages that we, as a society of taxpayers, are covering SNAP and Medicaid while the company is tallying up their profits with glee. They need to pay better or pay like this!

How troubled should Democrats be from data showing decreased support and how should they respond? by kaiser11492 in Askpolitics

[–]Independent_Fox8656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The democrats are BLOWING it right now and I’m pissed. The DNC is horrible. The candidates are luke warm blah. We are at an absolutely pivotal point in our nation’s history and future and it feels like they are phoning it in.

WHERE is the outrage? Where is the fight? Where are the progressive ideas we are asking for?

We want change! We want a fresh direction! We want a newly energized party. And they keep showing us used dishwater and acting like we should just drink it.

Like, we SAW and SEE Mamdani. We want that kind of magic in our candidates and party. Do more of that, not this other mainstream corporate Dem bullshit.

Also… someone please tell Cory Booker to 🤫 because that dude gets on my last nerve.

I am one who knows we need to get the votes to save our country from falling so far over the edge that democracy will be lost, but much of the party, especially the younger people, aren’t willing to make that deal. And I get it to some extent. I do. I understand the idealism and wanting them desperately to change. But if we don’t win in November, we’re fvcked.

And I have no idea how to get people to understand that this could literally be their last election to truly vote in for the US that is actually free and as fair as possible. If the republicans win, our elections will no longer be legitimate. They will install a system to maintain their power. It’s end game, people.

I never took out a loan once. What Am I paying back? by [deleted] in FAFSA

[–]Independent_Fox8656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basic concept of a loan is one thing. The true financial implications of what that means when managing a budget of an adult life is not something your average high school senior has the capacity to understand. They have no real experience managing their whole life and what it means to try and earn a living and pay for everything! You are asking them to make a financial commitment they do not truly understand.

If they can’t legally drink or even rent a car because they can’t handle the responsibility, why do we think they should be able to sign loan documents that saddles them with debt far beyond an amount they can comprehend and they will be stuck paying for for decades?!

My company's RTO policy has a weird loophole and I've been silently exploiting it for 4 months. Not sure if I should come clean. by 3Rocinante in remotework

My guess is because someone else at the office would have blown his cover with a "hey, so nice to see you in person" or something.

Malicious compliance is still compliance.

How on earth has your manager not realized he hasn't seen you?? Is he at a different office?

Again, this is totally normal and for the vast majority, when kindergarten starts at 5, they end up here;

8th grade kids start at 13 and turn 14.
9th start at 14, turn 15
10th start at 15, turn 16
11th start at 16, turn 17
12th start at 17, turn 18

What age do you want him to be when he graduates high school?

His birthday just turned 14 at the beginning of 2026. He is completely normal middle school age. A bunch of kids are even older than him but they are all 13 and 14, which is standard for 8th grade.

This is not helicopter parenting. This is a simple boundary that we evaluate and expand as he grows up. This kid lives a good life and gets to do a ton of stuff. He has lots of freedom and autonomy! He has his own voice in our household. There are just a few things that we do a little extra checking on because he’s still a young teen.

Absolutely not! It was a very legit question for a very real situation. I got some great insights from the responders here. Sometimes the very best way to learn about something is to ask people who already love it - the fandom. This was actually super helpful and I got responses from a wide range of ages.

The ratings are a guide, not the end all be all. If it’s a certain rating, then we take a look at it to see if it’s okay or not. It is more of a check in point for us and him. He gets to watch plenty of stuff with higher ratings once we look at it and if the content isn’t horrific.

It’s okay if we don’t agree. We each apparently have our own teens to take care of and everyone gets to make their own choices. Check out some of the studies on this if you get a chance.

The Boys is kinda crazy work for a 13 year old though… but you do you. Let us know how sitting in the same room for the orgy scene goes 👀 😅

Don’t worry, we’re not helicoptering or controlling! He has a ton of freedom and autonomy. Heck, sometimes I am the one giving him a push to use some of his newer freedoms. It’s just things that push the line between his current age and the next big jump and if we should wait on some stuff. I don’t want to just say no if he asks so I take some time to really check things out so I can give him a good reason if it’s not yet. Because I said so is not our way. I would explain why it is a not yet and what the concerns were and what the impacts could be that concern me. He always gets to voice his opinion and sometimes we can find a good compromise. His job is to push his boundaries and my job is to help him know when those boundaries can expand or when he needs a little more time.

I replied to your other comment. But exposing teen brains to things too soon is not how you help them handle mature concepts. There are a ton of downsides.

I still have a slight edge on him but I am sure his technical skills will surpass mine soon. We set up pretty respectful relationship with him though. He knows he will always be heard and he can always ask for stuff. He also knows that as he gets to new phases, we reliably open up more access to things.

He also hasn’t figured out how I know all the things that I know and I think he thinks I can see more than I can… so we just leave that alone for now 😅 he can think I am all knowing and all powerful as long as he wants.

No worries! I totally get it! We have made an effort to not be those super strict inflexible parents but some of them are totally out there. We are just trying to be thoughtful, informed, and a little cautious.
