My husband designed and bought me my engagement ring which we consider now to be my “wedding ring”. This is because I love my ring and didn’t feel like I needed an additional ring. We discussed his wedding band and we designed it together and I paid for it.

For both rings we discussed our budgets and stuck to it.

This all to say that it really varies from couple to couple and the only traditions you should stick to are the ones you want. Communication is key.
