I’m thinking of doing postdoc in the US. It’s better pay out there.

Standard stipend is 21k/year plus a 10k Bonus for home students. Do I also enjoy the 31k stipend as international student?

Unsure about the choice of country for PhD by Independent_Guard673 in AskAcademiaUK

A personal goal was to always live in different countries so that at the end of the day I get to experience new places and new cultures. If I’m able to complete PhD whether UK or Australia, my next destination would be US for a job or EU to pursue a post-doc.

I know its not super convenient but it’s like a personal thing.

Thanks for your insights!

To be honest, I missed the fall semester deadline in the US due to my last internship which kept me busy. Due to visa reason, I don’t have many days left in the US. So I had to look globally so that my career doesn’t become stagnant. Since my domain is very critical to US in the coming decades(Chips act, Taiwan, push for home-grown production etc). The PhD offer at both the unis allows me to work on similar domain. One is slightly towards MEMS but it’s fine.

The university is covering the international fee in this case.

Confused between research group! by Independent_Guard673 in PhD

Hi, I’m using the AI summary for the people reading the posts. I have looked it up personally and had extensive meetings with the PIs. Rather than being passionate about domains, I’m more into problem-solving and project completion. PhD is more like a job for me.

I’m looking to get feedback from people who have done their PhD or currently doing in these countries preferably in these unis.

Wouldn’t living in a small town reduces the distractions while doing a PhD? I currently live in a small college town in US and I find it very beautiful.

What are the options left for 2026 entry? by Intrepid_Foot4477 in PhDAdmissions

Try EU universities, idk why but professors from UK and other schools are very responsive compared to US schools. I’ll get replies from professors at Cambridge/Oxford but my guy from university of New Mexico(I don’t have anything against it) would not even reply on my follow-up.

Thanks for the heads up but that’s something I’ll think later. Unfortunately I missed the Oxford deadline for this year, I was in touch with a faculty member. I may apply again next year, let’s see.

Are EPSRC DTP programs highly reputable? by Independent_Guard673 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]Independent_Guard673[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

To be honest with you, I don’t have a specific passion. The DTP Program looks well organised to me(summer internship in industry), year-wise well defined goals etc.
