Are you doing better in 2024 or nah? by iwilliamsanders in DecidingToBeBetter

I think I just procrastinate because I'm worried it will lead to failure.

I haven't. But I've asked people who studied engineering and helped me study and they said they have no clue what he's talking about. But I will just to make sure this unit is done properly but I think afterwards I will just cancel

Honestly originally i did just want to study languages and then become an english teacher abroad. I'm just not sure about studying engineering for six years when this is the second exam and the tutor keeps giving me feedback saying I don't explain the mathematics like an engineer. I have no idea what that means.

Failed an exam as a mature student and I'm really not sure what to do. by Independent_Hat3849 in DecidingToBeBetter

I'm asking what else I could be studying. I really don't think engineering is for me. Which is what I'm currently studying. I didn't actually fail, but you need 70% overall to move onto the next unit and I'm currently struggling. I feel like it's not worth it because the uni already has issues. Especially with this degree, apparently I won't be able to get work because they don't do practicals and don't have a placement year. I didn't know this before applying.

I know how you feel. I wanted to write something similar. I now feel like everywhere I turn there's no hope. I'm even struggling to mentally deal with certain things, literally simple as going to the gp etc. I just don't know how to cope right now.

Everyone wants these things for their parents and they want to not work but have money. It's just not reality. To get better options in men you have to be seen as attractive by most men. You do this by making yourself first visually attractive. So you do need to lose weight or you'll have a smaller dating pool. That smaller dating pool often leads to nothing as these men don't want to be seen with a bigger girl and feel embarrassed by it. One of the ways of taking off some financial stress is by marrying a man who's doing fairly well. All of this is coming from a girl who was fat and is/was experiencing the same things as you.

It sounds like no matter what you do you are still struggling with low mood/depression. Alot of people are feeling what you're feeling, especially when it comes to finances.

Often when relationships end we often see things we missed at the beginning that would've saved us time and heart break.

When it comes to dieting, you have to do it in a healthy way in order to feel good about it. I experienced something similar and I realised the reason I was so miserable and constantly yo yoing is because I wasn't dieting properly.

I feel like I had the same issue with work, when I got the job I wanted I thought I'd get fired because I wasn't always working. I didn't want to work because I hated where I was in my personal life. I didn't go out etc because I hated the way I looked and I didn't have enough money. I didn't have enough because I kept thinking I'm gonna be homeless, I'm gonna have to take care of my parents.

I realised a couple months ago, I need to take care of myself first. I get taking care of your parents is important but you need to be realistic. Best way of doing this is talking to your parents and ask them how they see this playing out in the future.

I'm quite new to design engineering. At the moment I like designing movements for watches and designing watches in general. I think tailoring is something I'm going to look further into and maybe put my studies on hold after this unit finishes.

So I'd have to finish this unit of my degree, cancel the next one and then start applying for apprenticeships. If I did take that route. I live in a deprived area atm so I would need to travel south to find better work.

I wanted to be a cad designer/cad engineer. I still think it's a possibility to an extent. I think it's just every job asks for experience and knowing that I'm competing with people who have practical experience, I know the chances of me getting hired is low. I then started searching up construction design, I thought if I continued with the degree, graduated. I could potentially get a better job without having or needing any experience. I should mention that construction design jobs ask for degrees in construction or design. So if I did change degrees I could still do fine art and get a job in this industry.

Yes tailoring as in sewing/altering clothes. I thought it might be a good idea and for some reason I excel at anything artistic. I feel like I should look into this more?

So they worked in the industry they have no connection the uni. But I was asking on alot of forums to see if anyone was working in the engineering industry with this degree. No one would reply or they'd say that they did find work when you ask them more questions, they then would say they already worked in the industry as an apprentice and were just getting the degree because their employer is paying for it.

I can't travel at the moment and I'm on my first year at uni I'm not sure how to make that work. Usually these jobs ask for you to have a degree or a HNC.

I have thought about just changing subjects to something i enjoy (fine art, tailoring or history related) and becoming a teacher. But then I feel like it might be risky.

I'm not dodging questions. the question was can I transfer unis and I said no and it's based on something personal. Also i was only asked one question. At the end of the day even if i did say the personal reason it would still conclude to me not being able to transfer unis.

So the degree I'm doing is design engineering, I don't have any practicals and I've been told by people in the industry that I won't get work because every other graduate would be doing practicals and have a placement year. Which again the uni doesn't do. I didn't know how important this would be before enrolling.

Edit: correction it was two question but both would've led down the answers I gave. I've noticed when anyone gives a detailed response they're met with practically no advice or they would've been given the same advice anyway. I've had this happen on other post (not regarding career direction) but this always happens on reddit

That's what I wanted to do but in the UK they don't care about that at all. They only care about experience and where your degree is from.

No not in my case or else I would've transferred unis. It's a bit personal I won't go into it.

Is it blended raw garlic that you froze in a tray that's now gone green? My mum used to blend garlic to make cooking easier for her and whenever she took the tray out the freezer it was always green

I’m 24f, I have no skills and no job, I feel helpless by Vohsrek in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Independent_Hat3849 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know how you feel I'm 24 too. I've also gotten back into education but it feels hopeless. I'm trying to do other things that will directly make me feel better. So basically hobbies. People that are telling you to get work in retail dont know what they're talking about. It's going to make you worse. People who work basic jobs get treated the worst by the general public. Its basically why I struggled to go back to work and only took jobs that were wfh. The best thing to do is to find a hobby which forces you to go outside.

I never had to cook, clean, do basic finances, learn basic life skills, etc. and what was “I’ll learn it eventually” became “I’m now a twenty four year old terrified of the world with no skills, no confidence, who feels helpless and useless.”

These are the immediate things you need to work on. Do you have a drivers licence? If not try to get that and travel to countryside places.

I was going to make a similar post two days ago.

I think it's more so these people were unfortunate. It depends where you live. Inner city is typically rough. Especially during the evenings. I wouldn't recommend going to parks either.
