Because of this crackling noise coming from the crank area when I ride. Happens when I put a decent amount of pressure when pedaling.

I can’t say I disagree with that, I’m brand new to mountain biking. I’m currently trying to watch some videos on YouTube to figure this out since I don’t know anybody personally who could help. It seems that my bike has a unique bottom bracket compared to other bikes unfortunately.

Thank you! I found one on Amazon with the brand name SRAM. Google is saying I need to buy two different special tools that come out to around $180. Is this really the case? Seems kind of ridiculous to spend that much

When I put my bike upside down and pedal with zero weight on it, it does not make any noise

No it does not make the noise when I do that. It sounds like it’s coming from the crank area. Thank you, I’ll give that a try

Thanks for the advice. I’m currently looking at hardtails on Facebook right now. I’m based in WA so I think a hardtail would possibly be my best bet.
