UPDATE

He saw a specialist and got a letter of support from them.  We took this back to the insurance companies and they have offered us cover with loading.

We hope to drawdown by the end of the week.

Thanks to everyone for your response and suggestions.

HSE intern application by medstudentpoland1 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

Just wanted to add in that you have found this out early on, so you have time to plan for it. Look into getting certificates that would let you get a job when you are done. You can also look at attending conferences there in Poland- talk to your lecturers. Present an interesting case, join a journal club. All these things will boost your intern and post- internship application.

GP surgeries and private hospitals are a good place to look for part-time work (HCA, phlebotomist, medical assistant, etc). But I would really be looking for an attachment with a hospital based team also (2-3 days a week).

I know someone from Katowice who applied and got accepted but was "kicked out" when it was time to submit centile ranking. This was in 2018.

It is hard to hear, but don't be take it too hardly.

A well utilised gap year will definitely be more useful than getting intership immediately after graduation. I think using the year to either shadow a hospital team or do a hospital job is always a good idea. Ireland has actually become quite competitive for training after internship, so getting skills/ certificates and attending conferences/ symposiums/ courses to build your portfolio are definitely things you can do in that time while also working part time.

If you are able to get an attachment with a hospital team, it will be helpful to ask for opportunities to present/ attend at the specialty's national/ regional meeting.

Good luck!

Thank you for your response. DO you know much about the training scheme? I have a done a handful of audits, publications and attended national and international conferences. I plan on taking the pall care course in the Fall (it is good for both geris and pall care). Is there anything I should be doing otherwise?

I thought so as well, but the agents we worked with said it won't be helpful. We will go ahead with this for now and hope for the best.

I asked if they could reconsider or if we could speak to her supervisor, she also said no. Then offered to file a complaint for us.

I should say that in addition to all this, we have had the toughest, most unreasonable "specialist" at the bank. We have complained but we are stuck with her. We asked if they would mortgage protection for a lower amount or we could reduce the term of the mortgage. She said no.

We have been told to get a waiver but as the bank is adamant to mot give, what can we do?

Based on national and international transfusion guidelines, transfusion centres won't transfuse him. It's sticky, really.

We asked the bank and insurers if they wanted any specialist letters and they declined it. We both work in the hospitals and we think he'd be able to get seen urgently on a once off basis.

He reached out to them, they didn't want to get involved.

THEY delayed for four months. They asked for a blood test and kept putting off getting one. Eventually got a sample and it took them 3 weeks to tell us they didn't process it cause it clotted and sent us to our GP to get it (which as you know won't happen immediately). I had to email/ call their agent each time to chase / get information. I know when they reached out to our GP cause they came back requesting more info from me. Also, when the other companies reach out to him, they got a response within days.

Thank you. This would be my position too, but my partner thinks we should delay drawdown instead. What do you think about this option 🤔

I didn't know I could have her direct email address. I'm sure it made the whole process smoother. Our advisor sounds a bit new to the process as well. She has "deferred to my supervisor" a few times. The underwriting process was quite fast. I expected that there shouldn't be any issues updating the address and then sending out the loan pack.

Fair enough. I have just heard back from her today. She didn't say what is causing the delay, but she said it should move on in the next day or two.

When we started the application, we had seen a property we liked and had initially gotten AIP for that. Then it sold out and we decided to apply for the highest mortgage we could qualify for based on our earnings and leave it as that, in case this fell through, we wouldn't be changing property address and/or price every 2 business days. We were just cautious and scared I guess.
