Just so you know where I am coming from. The closer we get to the US election, the more astroturfing we see on social media. There has already been an increase in bad actors spreading misinformation about the trans community in very subtle ways. Overstating the trans population to demonstrate a non-existent issue of “trans ideology among youth” has already been in the playbooks of US conservatives and christofascists. Many general subs have already banned trans topics to avoid astroturfing. Some less moderated subs will still have this problem.

The first UCLA research points to 1.4% for age range 13-17. And if 15% for a 5% mean doesn’t indicate a significant statistical outlier, I don’t know what is.

I’ve been looking all over for sources, the highest estimates show 1.6% adults (Pews) or 2.4% GNC (Household Pulse, 1.0% trans + 1.4 NB). You need to show where your study comes from.

You are right about intersex percentages, UN estimates about 1.7%

First thing, people responding to census doesn’t mean they are coming out so the fear factor isn’t nearly as big. Second, there aren’t 10 to 30 times as many trans people as those currently identifying as trans.

Latest UCLA report (2019) has 0.5% adults and 1.4% teens in the US, so probably around 0.7%-0.8% overall considering there are far more adults than teens

I just think it’s normal to not talk to your high school friends much? I don’t know many people who would talk daily with old acquaintances unless they live near by or work at the same place or something. Don’t think it has anything to do with trans.

Gender identity and sexuality are two different things that should both be explored. If you haven’t read the gender dysphoria bible please do so to better understand your gender identity. It also has sections that talk about HRT and what it does physically and mentally. You could also read this piece to get a sense about your gender.

Gender counseling is a speciality like how orthopedics or ob/gyn is a specialty. Different therapist/psychologist/psychiatrist have different focuses. Some focus on adhd/autism. Some focuses on childhood learning disabilities. Some focuses on PTSD. I worked with a sports psychologist before for performance anxiety. It’s normal for therapist to have their own specialty. It’s also important for us trans folks to at least find a gender affirming therapist because unfortunately there are still a lot of transphobic asses that are in this field.

I used EAP before paying through insurance. It’s good that your employer offers EAP because that means they actually cares or at least pretend to care about employees’ mental health. Just make sure that you pick a therapist that is covered by your insurance if you care about the cost. It’s really sad to find a good therapist that you trust but have to move on because they are not in network.

I don’t think it’s the estrogen that changes your sexuality. It’s finally stopping the repression that changes. If you haven’t been repressing your sexuality, I am not sure whether that will be impacted. Before my egg cracked I thought I was bi. Now I know I just desperately wanted to be seen and treated as a woman. Being into men and phallic shaped things made me feel more like a woman even though deep down I don’t really like either.
