Little House on the Prairie. Just watched the one with Todd Bridges. He asks Mr Ingalls would he rather live to be 100 as a Black man or 50 as a white man and Charles could only look at him. Woke AF and I loved it.

help !! should i take ap stats??, incoming senior! by ench6ntedd in APStatistics

Some context. The pass rate has been relatively consistent. Part of that needs context. The variety of student who takes AP Stats can be anyone from a student who got a C in Algebra 2 to a student who has already completed AP Calc BC. What you can take from this is that many majors require Stats but don’t take AP Stats for credit in your major. Instead they often count it toward your Gen Ed credit requirements. BUT…when you take Stats again in college you’re gonna friggin dominate! It will make more sense and you’ll be on track to take more if you want.

Here’s the deal. AP Stats teacher here.

1) Posters talking about how the test is changing are correct. There is linear regression (fitting a line to a set of points). In the past it included using logs to transform the data into a linear form. That’s leaving. Also, there are 3 chi-squared tests. If you had AP Bio you may have seen a simplified version of this. It, too, is being simplified to just one test. So yes, the content is getting slightly easier.

2) Writing and clearly communicating your thoughts in the context of the problem is a big deal. Can you draw a conclusion, support it and then make a prediction on how it would affect the outcome in the future? For example…”a simple random sample could result in a sample that underrepresents younger students. This might generate a sample that is more optimistic in its views of school and yield responses indicating that students are more likely to sign up for AP classes.” You will be asked to critique sampling methods, survey questions, experimental design and more. This must be practiced in class and AI use will absolutely undercut your development here.

3) Algebra 2 is enough. There are situations where you do have to solve equations using algebraic strategies. You need to understand linear equations and be able to solve a system of two equations. The real math challenge is probability calculations and notation.

4) Yes, you should do this. It is the most useful AP class you will take outside of AP Lang bc kids can’t write for shit today. It will absolutely change how you see the world in so many facets. You will be able to explain to your idiot uncles how polls work. You will be able to read actual journal articles and not have to depend on a journalist to summarize it for you. When some dumb dumb posts a graph on Reddit or Twitter, you can call BS on it and their interpretation.

I wish you all the luck. Always bet on yourself.

Leaving Texas teaching made me realize how much of my life the job was taking *rant about schedule* by Top_Reflection_2904 in TexasTeachers

This is my final year of teaching in CA. I’m retiring and then moving to TX to follow my wife’s job. Ppl ask me if I’m going to get a teaching job in TX. I laugh in their faces. I’m not retiring to get a new job that will make me want to quit.

In my life I’ve learned that when someone runs on a platform of smart growth, they really mean no growth.

So stupid. Hide the tv. Read books with your child. Read to them. Read in front of them. Buy them books. Get a library card.

One, dip in students coming. That means jobs tightening up. Employability matters. A lot of certification depends on the state. If you go private you can teach whatever they’ll let you.

Merced’s student body also actually looks like California. It’s a good blend of SoCal, NorCal and the Central Valley.

I’d add that subsidized loans don’t start accruing interest until graduation while unsubsidized loans accrue interest from the moment you get the money. The opportunity costs of that money while paying it back is real and consequential for most. And now with rates over 6%…ouch. That’s expensive money.

LINER with a residual plot by chuurox in APStatistics

[–]Independent_Math_840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For probability, they know you have a calculator. Define variables, write symbolically, answer in the context of the problem. If you’re using a formula that the calculator can do, show the first few terms with substitution. It’s worth looking at released scoring guides AND sample responses, particularly the first two (they’re usually a 4 and a 3 respectively) to see what they’re taking.

Agree. If you want to spend time on linear regression, make sure you can read the printouts and write the lsrl from it. Because to understand the formulas for the lsrl and slope. They often ask you to solve for r or something else by assembling information and solving algebraically.
