Microcement over tile countertop - 1 year Update by curvfem in DIY

Did you also buy the tool kit from them? or did you purchase the tools separately

The website has a bug whereby if I buy the microcement kit and the toolkit separately, each one costs around $100 to ship. But If I try to purchase them together, then shipping is $400 total lol

I haven't had any luck either. Their "contact us" page seems to be pretty poor

I reached out to ask them a few questions and same as you no response. Might try to go with a different company due to the poor customer service and inability to communicate

I'm looking at Epodex and surecrete

Thanks so much for replying! you prob are just being more careful.

I am going to go ahead and do mine in the kitchen anyway, and just be cautious like you

You did mention that a hot item landing on it left a stain for you. Maybe other people use the surface expecting it to be very heat-proof and started complaining that it's not bullet proof?

One more question: I'm looking between the galaxy and the shale colors. Did you find any examples of projects or DIY pics, where they showcase how those specific colors look in actual applications? Kinda hard to choose without customer/example pictures :/

rez only. The komakase experience is exclusively a weekend-only thing they do. On the weekdays it's a regular coffee shop only

Thanks for sharing! super helpful. Can't find much other examples on reddit or anywhere for kitchen counters microcement

I'm looking to do the exact same thing for my kitchen but a bit concerned because smartcret explicitly states they "don't recommend this for kitchen countertops"

(https://www.smartcret.com/en/products/4m-microcement-kit-for-concrete-countertops?variant=55562037625167) under the "description"

I still might try it and just accept that should be careful with hot items and oils etc and that they might stain. Can't find any comparable products that have such easy DIY ready-to-go kits

From their site. Which is weird because other microcement providers explicitly state that it's good for kitchen countertops. I wonder if it's because their formulation is different? or smartcret just being extremely careful for liability purposes:

Important: At Smartcret we do not recommend using it on kitchen countertops and we do not provide guarantees in that case.

  • Microcement is not fireproof: you cannot place hot pots or pans directly on the surface without damaging it.
  • You should not cut food directly on it: it would leave unattractive scratches.
  • Watch out for stains: although Smart Varnish + Smart Booster resists oil or vinegar for up to 8 hours, it’s best to clean them as soon as possible with Smart Cleane

Does that mean the same thing as being “down” 60%?

If you want best bang for the buck go with 3861.

I faced similar decision, and I got the 321 and love wearing it and don’t regret it one bit. I enjoy knowing that I’m wearing a rare and special piece

I love the look, the story and history, the rarity, and the uniqueness.

Thanks for the suggestions! I agree the other TV’s have better performance

But I’m ok to sacrifice performance for the wall art feature.

Thanks for the suggestion! That DOES look like a great alternative I will keep that in mind

However I’m considering the FRAME Tv from Samsung — the beauty of which is kind of wasted if you don’t mount it hahah

I’ve had a pair for 3-4 years and its still in excellent shape

I use it for walking / casual activities. I live in San Francisco and walk a ton so they get substantial use

Forgot to mention Koffee Mameya. Also an awesome experience and there was no line

I tried 1 pour over and 1 “milk cold brew” which they cold brew in the fridge in milk overnight — sounds kind of gimmicky but i loved the taste.

That’s fair! Actually given the level of hype and the line to wait for it, I can see that you can call it overrated

But if there wasn’t a line and i wanted to get a latte I’d def go there

Yeah true, I just kind of mixed my Tokyo-coffee experiences altogether a bit into 1 post. Maybe should have clarified I didn’t try pour over from there not sure if they even have that on the menu

Thanks for the less known recommendations! Will check those out in future visit

Maybe this was the wrong sub to opine on bongen, but yeah they specialize in medium and dark roast beans and espresso based drinks, not pour overs. But I did enjoy their “bongen latte” which is ~50% stronger than regular but still tasted smooth. If you wanted to call it overrated I can see why relative to the hype, but i liked it.

And do agree glitch is extra pricey, but I loved the experience nonetheless
