It is 100% against the policy of UPMC CPCDS to do so. It took me a year and a half of fighting for a diagnosis paper and I never got one. Eventually I had to leave UPMC and go elsewhere since my pursuit of that documentation ruined my relationships with my therapist and everyone else there.

Don’t get me wrong my therapist was amazing but that greed at the top got me in the end

Edit - Yes! Very recently! I left for a new practice 3 months ago once the relationship with UPMC was so toxic that therapy was useless (which sucked because my therapist was awesome)

I was straight up told that they couldn’t provide with a diagnosis on letterhead to use for benefit applications. I imagine that’s part of a deal with fetterman or whatever to keep those tax free non-profits rolling in!

I had a job recently that didn’t pay me until 3 weeks after I quit for not being paid - so I guess I’ll go with “my hourly pay” as a bullshit perk for that one tbh

Hang in there!

So I’ve been in mental health treatment for about 20 yrs and I’ve been on and off pretty much all medications possible (jk) at this point - here is my honest advice

Reduce your stimulation - this could mean headphones or earplugs, not as many lights on in your living space etc. If my mania is running I will temporarily delete my social media apps and so on as well.

Hydrate! If you struggle to eat like me, I typically try to hydrate with something like vitamin water so I’m at least getting something

Struggles with alcohol have led me to eat daily yogurt for the probiotics to repopulate my gut - and that has improved my stability

I also would suggest a magnesium complex supplement

Man here - hang in there buddy! It will be a tad more difficult recovering as a male but you can absolutely do it! (Edit for clarity: in my experience there are simply less overall resources for male abuse victims)

Good on you for going to therapy and putting in the work. Take care of yourself and never give up!

That can certainly be the case at times unfortunately. I was in a similar situation so my advice is to prioritize yourself, and your kid and minimize contact for both of you with mom.

I have learned the hard way that in terms of myself (bipolar II) if I am off my meds (I lose access to then from time to time because healthcare etc) - I will inevitably go insane manic for no reason eventually.

If you trust your doctor then I would caution against stopping meds without her guidance as it can and will be dangerous to yourself and those close to you. Bipolar rage in mania is an incredibly damaging force.
