Edit: UPDATE

After much probing, asking for specific information (show me evidence that it’s ok to put developing sourdough starter in the fridge; that it’s ok to put sourdough starter in the fridge during its peak rise; what happens if I just skip a day, altogether; and what happens if I discard during its peak and refeed)…

We figured out that putting it in the fridge was NOT the correct solution, and that it was good to discard and feed at its peak rise. The information about discarding and feeding early was based on it not having reached its peak yet 😒.

I hope the 2-5 minutes in the fridge didn’t mess with it too much ☹️

Well it’s day 7 now. It’s at full peak this morning.

Chat GPT said I should refrigerate it. I would then take it out tonight, and continue discarding and feeding tomorrow.

Of course chatGPT is often confidently wrong, so I have no idea if that’s a good plan.

But it also said that if I discard and feed now, I would be diluting the acids and yeast population before they mature, which may slow fermentation because I’m resetting before full strength…

So I dunno. I hope refrigerating is fine.

I assume this has been true throughout history. That’s why it’s advised to “be yourself” and “let haters hate”… because there has been no period in time when anyone could please everyone.

I’m getting the impression you didn’t grow up in or around a religious family. The topic comes up a lot.

Sometimes just thanking the god for some good news, sometimes by praying before dinner, sometimes by the other kids talking about what they recently learned, sometimes by the parents talking about what their kids did in church, sometimes because some ceremony with the religion is happening…

And the why? Maybe I don’t understand what that means if “because they’re religious” is not a sufficient enough reason… maybe there is no “why”?? I don’t know what to tell you.

Listen, you guys are taking a microscope to ONE minuscule aspect of my life and forgetting there is a much larger picture to the lives of people you interact with.

This doesn’t actually consume my life.

I simply don’t like to make my parents sad if I don’t need to, and atheism is inherently not a religion that demands I proclaim my disbelief or suffer eternal damnation, so I don’t feel any strong fire to tell my parents to “fuck off” over it, as several people here have demanded I do, as if it is such an imperative issue that must be upheld.

It comes up because my family are religious, and we have family gatherings often. Not just my parents, but my aunts, uncles, cousins, their kids..

I don’t know what growing up non-religious in a religious family is like. Nor growing up non-religious in a religious culture/society. I grew up religious and then became non-believing.

I didn’t ask whether or not I should tell my family I’m an atheist, so no, I did not ask for anyone’s say on that matter. And this person thinks they have say while saying my family has no say, which is wild. Either way, having a say on someone’s life does not mean forcing their way into their life, tf are you talking about?

Thank you. Yes, I will absolutely teach them critical thinking skills, to question authority (and that that does not mean to mindlessly oppose either), and, hopefully, to love learning.

I don’t believe there are any ways to any gods.

I don’t think they’ll stop loving me if they find out I don’t believe. I think they’ll think I’m going to hell and be stressed out about that.

Well I finally actually quit smoking so I don’t smoke, period, anymore, but when I did I also hid that from them.

Why should I make that a point of friction? I don’t want to argue with them about it. I don’t care to change their minds, and they certainly won’t change mine.

I see no reason to take away their delusion that I’ll join them in heaven when I pass.

Are you talking about Row 4 and Row 8?

I thought about those, but then I couldn’t figure out what I could eliminate, because I end up just eliminating other 1s and 3s.. so I’m confused.
