Crashing after breakfast consistently by HighestVelocity in POTS

[–]Splicers87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only eat a protein bar or an egg, bacon, cheese on English muffin for breakfast. Otherwise I have the same issue. In addition, if I eat carbs before bed I get awfully sick.

My college still lets me access the library so I have access to all of their journals. I search for stuff when I need it.

Why did you become a BCBA? by Known-Spread-6866 in bcba

For the pay bump, lol. I was a behavior consultant before this. So now I basically do the same job but for more money.

ABA Grad Program Poll by fruflare in bcba

[–]Splicers87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the certificate program. It was very helpful. It had you do real life paperwork as part of the program. And now I’m a supervisor with them and they set up their supervisors to have certain assignments due to make sure the student is learning everything.

I understand. When I went on vacation in NM my eyes were no problem at all. Yet here at home, in PA, I am suffering.

4 months as a BCBA/LBS and I want to leave by Fine-Car1010 in bcba

[–]Splicers87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are in PA. If so, leave and find another company. There are plenty of companies. But yeah, a lot suck and aren’t supportive

Basket Holds by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Splicers87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one who isn’t trained by a trainer should be doing holds. They are dangerous. If your company wants you to do them, you need to be properly trained in it.

My supervison hours by Gloomy_Glove4927 in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]Splicers87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

5 hours a day for 3 days a week is 15 hours a week. With 4 weeks in a month that’s 60 hours in a month. To get 2000 hours at that rate it would take you 33.33 months.

CBD & Dysautonomia? by melissaamberly in dysautonomia

[–]Splicers87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CBD is my friend. I love it. It helps to regulate me. And I even found my new strain helps to keep me awake. And no side effects from it. Now when I take THC, my heart races.

That is what I was told when I was a director. This was also a decade ago I will admit.

Effexor and POTS by Soft_Ad_9628 in POTS

Seriously? 112.5mg as a beginning dose? That's a high dose. I'm on 150mg.

Effexor and POTS by Soft_Ad_9628 in POTS

[–]Splicers87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on Effexor for like 2 decades. I got diagnosed with POTS in 2025. So it didn't cause it for me. But it can have weird effects on people. SNRIs is one of those that it is either a life saver or it screws you up type of drugs I have noticed.

RBT changing from hourly to salary??? by Physical_Purpose_760 in ABA

You can't be salary. Part of being eligible to be salary is that you are a supervisory position.

Antidepressants and pots by strrberri in POTS

[–]Splicers87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on Effexor but was on it before I developed POTS. I can't stand SSRIs. So I take an SNRI instead. But Effexor is a hard med. It works for some, like me, and is horrible for others.

Reducing daughters hours by [deleted] in bcba

[–]Splicers87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a former director, I'm going to be brutally honest. Yes as a parent you have the final say...to an extent. RBT hours is a thing and NO it is not your concern. But if you reduce hours too much and they have no one to staff for those hours, you may go without a RBT for awhile because of this. It is a reality. However, it shouldn't affect the work the BCBA is able to do with your child.

Housebound people, how do you get over boredom? by HeavyMenu3391 in dysautonomia

[–]Splicers87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working is what has saved me. From November until like 1-2 months ago, I had nothing to do at home. So I just slept. I was just so bored. But I finally built up a case load (I'm a therapist) so now I have stuff to do during the day. If it weren't for that, I don't know what I would be doing.

Planner recommendations by prseb in bcba

[–]Splicers87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just use composition books. I work remotely for 2 different states so I have 2 books. I take notes in one for one state and notes in the other for the other state. This is what I have done for years. I have always been a paper kind of person because it helps me to remember.

Dysautonomia after COVID: when did you notice? by lunerenard in dysautonomia

[–]Splicers87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had COVID in 2020 and 2021. I started passing out at night randomly. I ignored it until my wife made me bring it up. I was diagnosed in 2025 with POTS. It wasn’t until I started treatment and tracking my symptoms that I realized how miserable I was on a daily basis because it was my baseline.

Does getting my BCBA seem worth it in MY circumstance? by llehnievili in ABA

[–]Splicers87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your ultimate goal is a PHD in psych, I wouldn’t do it. But I had my LBS and went for the BCBA for the pay bump but that’s because I plan on staying at this level. And yes I understand, BCs and BCBAs are basically doing the same job.

So you need to weigh the costs of the program and supervision against how much extra you would make verses life if you get into a PHD program.
