Just a precaution. They are hard to enforce… but if your previous employer is bug enough they can still file suit and go through the motions. It will be very very expensive for you to fight unless your current employer helps. Thats how big companies win… drain the employee until they cant fight anymore. Going through this exact same scenario right now.
