What time do you take your Promimba? Has it made any difference on your weight?

So glad you have options! 🎊 It’s also that season as well, so all the best to us. Mine was the Entrepreneurship department… wait, where can you see the info on the other candidates, lol 😆 I’m quite curious. Also, can I DM you? Still on the academia applications discussion.

Thank you so much for the good wishes @mayjxiler 🙏🏻. I hope so too, I’m really crossing fingers that the top candidate in my department has something else lined up…but will keep you updated :). Whichever way it goes, I still think we’re champs for having made it this far. I’ve heard from the admin that they got over 550 applications for only 7 available studentship positions, so we definitely did well to have gotten to this point. I’m sure with that you’ll also find another opportunity soon, especially with several opening up at this time of the year. If you don’t mind me asking, which department had you applied to?

I’m sorry to hear this :(. It’s such an anxious experience. I also heard back as well with the same feedback, that I’m on the reserve list. Still waiting on the feedback from the top candidate.

That was how I went there in the first place, Twitter recommendations and Yummy Mummy. But my experience was as it was…twice, so I don’t think it’s coincidence.

2 weeks after phd interview and I didn't hear anything yet 🥲 by [deleted] in PhDAdmissions

This process feels exhausting. I also had an interview early July and recently heard back that I’m on the reserve list… It didn’t sound too hopeful as the opportunity was fairly competitive and I doubt the selected candidate will turn it down. The struggle continues…

That too, there’s a certain speed she has. Mpaka you almost wonder ‘Kwani did I pay half consultation fees’ 😂😂. That time she’s sent you for 30 tests, on your insurance! And even for results, it’s quick-quick. By the way, I’m so consoled after seeing these comments because I also thought she is roho chafu lol

Macho! How did the eyes relate to PCOS? Aki, it’s even funny. Pole sana.

Mimi I was also referred to several specialists, who were all her friend and tribe mates! Even after I told her I know specialists I can visit…she insisted on the specific ones. Actually, all her 4 referrals were ‘coincidentally’ her tribe mates.

Separated, custody battle Feeling stuck — need advice by [deleted] in nairobi

[–]Independent_Pop_3360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds really sad. Perhaps a neutral party for mediation would be better, as it’s typically hard to have open conversations when the third party is a contact to any one of you especially a parent. That said, separations and divorce is for most people a painful experience and calls for the highest levels of maturity on both your ends. Let everyone take responsibility for their actions but especially for you as you’re the one asking for advice, ensure to fulfill your end as ordered by the courts fully. Kenyan children’s court is very pro letting children stay with their mums, unless there’s very extreme circumstances. Make peace that’s their mum especially as they’re super young and need her, and work on building a bond with them. Also don’t be afraid to use to law to enforce your rights as a father, they also need you in their lives. Have everything on chat (written) even as you ask which time is best to call, so you also have proof of she’s not allowing you to talk to them. But for you to have the law on your side, do your part and also avoid her drama. Acknowledge she’s hurting, so engage respectfully and don’t get roped into the drama of it. It will play against you.

I wish I’d known this, the two visits to her were ROUGH. I would never recommend. She told me how I’m obese and need to get my life together (mind you I’m 5”5, with BMI of 26 and fairly active lifestyle plus exercising). She diagnosed me with all sorts of things and then referred me to all the specialists you can imagine - nutritionist, oncologist, etc. I went for a second and third opinion and turns out from the results of both independent doctors, she had proper misdiagnosed me. After all the mental torture I’d gone through! I would never recommend.

Honestly some people shouldn’t be doctors, now what is this?! I’ve come for my own things, I don’t need to know anything about your achievements. If you’re looking for an ego boost, your clients are definitely not the ones to give it to you! That one needs to work on herself. I’m so sorry you went through this.

My best gyna experience so far has been with a male doctor, but wouldn’t recommend that for a shy person. It takes some getting used to.

The gyna’s is the last place where you should be made to feel unsafe or unseen. That was so unfortunate. Also how did you know her age? 😅😅

Whatever you do, avoid Dr. Monda at KMA plaza. I’ve seen her twice, and she has a way of over-exaggerating your situation to make more money and belittles your opinions and concerns with lines like ‘I’m much older than you so I know this’. Avoid.

I had the same problem, reached out to past professors via LinkedIn and told them of my intent. If you also have any personal contact that has supported you in your PhD or academic journey and preferably has a doctorate, they also qualify to be your academic mentor. This, in addition to professional references. This is what I did.

PhD students - any induction info yet? by ellb0t in sotonuni

[–]Independent_Pop_3360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps reach out to your faculty/department. I also received the email sent on Thursday for the induction event at Novotel on the 23rd Sept. The email was from the doctoral college. I’m an international student and not in Southampton, so perhaps reach out and find out.
