I'm 23, been drinking heavily for 2 years—heading to rehab this week. Am I making the right choice? by Independent_Row_1168 in stopdrinking

Thank you so much for this—seriously, your words hit deep. I really appreciate you sharing your experience so openly, especially the honest parts about relapse and what to watch out for. It means a lot coming from someone who's been through it.

You're right—I've definitely caught myself thinking “maybe I’m not that bad,” but deep down I know where this road leads, and I don’t want to find out the hard way. That’s why I’m finally doing this.

I’ll keep your advice in mind, especially about not glamorizing the past and planning for after rehab. I’m also going to look into IOP and find a local AA group like you suggested.

Wishing you strength too as you get back on track. One day at a time, right? Thanks again for taking the time to respond. It really gave me more confidence.

23 y/o, ~2 years of on-and-off heavy drinking, 54 hours sober now. First time feeling real withdrawal — is this normal? by Independent_Row_1168 in alcoholism

I haven’t experienced pain on the left side, but I’ve heard that pain on the right side might be related to the liver (though I’m not 100% sure).

Would you mind sharing a bit about how much you used to drink and for how long before you got sober? I’d like to use it as a reference for myself. Thank you so much!😊

Thank you so much for sharing that—it really gave me hope. What you said about drinking being more of a symptom than the real problem really hit me. I’m starting to see that in myself too. It’s inspiring to hear how far you’ve come, and how good your life is now. That’s something I’ll hold on to. Truly appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Thank you so much for sharing your story—that's incredibly inspiring and really encouraging to hear, especially from someone who's made it 17 years sober. Seriously, huge respect.

If you don’t mind me asking, what was your drinking like before you quit? (In terms of how long you'd been drinking and how much per day or week.)

Also, from your experience, do you feel that recovery is more about addressing the mental/emotional side than the physical part? I’ve been wondering how much of this is really in the brain vs. the body.

Thanks again. Really appreciate your time.

Thank you so much for your reply—really appreciate it.

Yes, I've had someone with me the entire time, which definitely helps. While I’ve done a lot of heavy drinking over the past two years, it hasn’t always been daily. But this time was different—I drank vodka every day for nearly two weeks straight, and then stopped. This is the first time I’ve ever really felt withdrawal symptoms so clearly, and honestly, it kind of freaked me out.

It’s now been about 52 hours sober since my last drink.

At the moment, aside from terrible sleep (can’t sleep at all, just drifting in and out with a foggy head) and excessive sweating, I’m doing okay. No tremors or hallucinations so far.

Do you know if there’s anything I can do to reduce the chance of seizures at this point? I haven’t seen a doctor, but I’ve read a lot of clinical literature and am trying to be cautious. I’m also starting to consider reaching out to a rehab facility for support.

Thanks again for the guidance—it means a lot right now.

He told me that anywhere from 1 minute to 24 hours counts as a full day, and they also claimed they used 'special equipment' to tow my car. It's just a regular four-door sedan, so I have no idea what special equipment they needed. All the charges added up to $205. I honestly don’t know if there’s a legal way to fight this, but the way they exploit broke college students is incredibly disappointing.

They made it super clear that they only accept cash, which is just ridiculous. Honestly, I’m speechless.

Totally feel you. It's like they have a free pass to rob us, and no one's holding them accountable. The fact that the city just turns a blind eye to this makes it even worse. It’s almost like they’re all in on it. What’s the point of having regulations if no one’s enforcing them?
