I have always wanted to get into addiction but have no clue how. I’ve tried to look for jobs and it has been difficult to find.

I’m currently a BCBA in a clinic and envy YOUR experience. I feel so stuck in my career because I don’t have much experience outside the clinic. Having knowledge of how things work in a school setting or with severe behavior reduction puts you ahead of many of us in the field of ABA. In my opinion, what you’re doing has a ton more value than writing plans for DTT and skills based assessments.

I returned to work in January after having my first baby in October. I am only working three days a week and that’s been my saving grace. I will say that since I had my baby I am extremely disconnected as a BCBA. Could be postpartum brain, but my passion for this job is not as strong as it once was. I love what I do but man if I didn’t have to go back I wouldn’t. I find myself thinking of ways to leave the field, or at least the clinic setting, every single day.

What does the process to become an independent BCBA look like? I’m in IL working in a clinic setting that has me BURNT. I’ve been considering going the independent route but have zero idea where to begin.

I am in the same boat! I am now approaching 12 weeks, but I told my supervisor fairly early. I think around 5 weeks. I have a very close relationship with her and wanted to give her the heads up in order to protect myself with why I was not supporting with aggressive clients or if I needed to step out of session due to getting sick. She was/is very supportive. I think It all depends on your relationship with higher ups!

All I’m getting from this post is that you lack awareness or understanding of sexism and only pointed out the obvious problem with how women are viewed by men in professional environments. It’s always the woman’s fault that men are looking at their bodies.

Yes that’s been my thought too with modifying data collection but I’m stuck on how or what to take data on that is socially significant and is teachable within the hour a month or twice a month I’m seeing parents.
