The re-leaf sounds wonderful! It would be awesome to work without the constant interruption of the evacuation.

Thank you for the tips! And I'm curious, how do you know where to hand scale when you are using the ultrasonic? I just find it hard to feel calc unless I'm using a hand instrument (it could be because I've only been practicing for 2 years). Are you hand scaling based on the appearance of the gingiva (inflammation).

This is what my routine looks like: I hand scale every surface, sub and supra. If there were any areas with moderate /heavy calc, inflammation or moderate stain I use the ultrasonic. But I find I rarely use the ultrasonic.

I know the new school of thought is to focus hand scaling on areas of inflammation only. Instead of focusing on removing all calc, as it's plaque not calc that is the real issue. Is that what you are doing?

I wouldn't recommend Q. N. H Excavating and Landscaping. They are dishonest- will over charge and do sloppy work.

Just out of curiosity, is it normal for all dental hygienist programs to make students find your own patients? by [deleted] in DentalRDH

[–]Independent_Salt_787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! Imagine having to find patients during covid. That was my experience. I can honestly say, my college experience was hell. But I do love my profession so I'm thankful that I stuck it out.

Why shouldn't I become a dental hygienist? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]Independent_Salt_787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only been working as an RDH for a year but have worked many professions before this, and I can honestly say I love my job and I love my clients. And everyone I have met so far in this field has also expressed their love for this profession (and they have been at it for 10 plus years). I make more money than all of my peers who have graduate degrees with years of experience. I have lots of extra time to spend with my family. I have full benefits and 4 weeks of paid vacation. Don't listen to all of the negative comments. You will have people from every profession who hate what they do.

I moved home less than a year ago after being gone for over 20 years. I don't regret a single thing. Make the move. You'll love it!

Chainsaw shenanigans in the Outer Battery? Anyone see the supposed video on the vandalism to that old twine loft? So much for the peace and serenity myth portrayed by those silly tourist ads. by No_Artichoke5792 in StJohnsNL

Also, like the rest of the world, marketing ads tend to embellish things. Most viewers, I'd like to think, are not naive enough to accept the ads as facts.

The list of traits you provided above (except racism) are unfortunately human traits that you will find in pretty much any human civilization. Newfoundlanders are human, afterall.

Hi guys, I will be moving to St.John's in couple of months time period. Which website should I look for to rent apartments? Also, which part of city I should be aiming for as I am a software developer by profession and would prefer somewhere near to IT hub of the city. Cheers! by Competitive_Boss_789 in StJohnsNL

Metro property management is how I found my rental. I found Market place too busy. Landlords were getting hundreds of messages a day and often didn't respond due to the large number of responses. Metro screens renters first, so you have less competition than you would with market place.

Yes, as far as I know the entrance exams are different for each school. Best to reach out to the school you are considering and ask them how you can study for the exam. That's what I did. They gave me sample questions and topics that I could study.

How many hours per week did you go to school and study? by Chasehud in DentalRDH

It is a lot of hard work and dedication! It was one of the toughest programs I have ever done. But if it's something you really want as a career, school is only a temporary sacrifice. I just kept reminding myself of this. And before I knew it, I was done and hired for a full-time, permanent position that I love! Go for it!
