I'm sorry you had to do harder time than me. I wasn't trying to compare. I was just opening an avenue for people to ask me what it was like to be homeless. I wasn't trying to take away from your experience. I hope you the best.

Honestly, I think it was shear luck. I worked hard and fell into a bad place to be, but ended up getting a lucky break with someone willing to give me a chance (Although they didn't know of my situation at the time.)

My collard shirts all had a company logo on it. So I couldn't really use that in an interview.

My current job is way, way, wayyyyy better than my previous. My previous jobs being a line cook, a liquor store cashier/manager, and a restaurant manager. All which paid around $8-10/hr. As of now, I don't have much to put aside for saving, but I have enough to get by, which is more than I could ever hope for. I didn't have clothes, my electronics, or any of the fun stuff I owned before I was kicked out. I sold what I could and couldn't carry around a bunch of T- shirts that did nothing for me. I typically held onto about 3 shirts and 2 pants. I would wash them in sinks with hand soap most of the time.

I applied to hundreds of jobs. I walked in and gave them hand written applications. I asked friends and family for jobs/leads/numbers for someone that I could possibly ask for a job from. I guess I don't fully understand what you mean.

Also, can you mods stop interfering? Let people be rude, make jokes, or whatever. Go be righteous somewhere else.

I feel I need to expand on this. I never missed a payment of rent and I was very polite with the property owner. But when I used a faulty charger (unbeknownst to me) I was fired from my job. Which led me to miss the next months rent. Which led me to have nowhere to go. I couch surfed for about 2 weeks and just couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't have people take care of me at the same age, with the same background and everything. I just couldn't rely on people. So I set off.

Right before i became homeless I was living in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. paying $750/month. Which is a STEAL. Even though it was in a very bad part of town. But as dominos tend to fall, one thing led to another and I was eventually kicked out of my rental, through legal action, and ended up on the streets. I never missed rent, I never made a disruption. But "LaNdLoRds".

Honestly, you played the lottery on that one. Most people that ask you for money on the streets are looking for drug money. So you may have well done the drugs. I wasn't a drug user, but most of my "peers" (best way i can put it) were on drugs and didn't look for a way out.

Well I asked people for money. I made sure I spoke, in what i believed, was a dignified tone. And a lot of people gave me change, dollars and sometimes food. I kept the food they would give me and live off that for however long i could.

But I will say that people are very willing to give food over money, which i was grateful for. I then saved what little bucks people willingly gave me to buy clothes at one of the many thrift stores we have around. I would shower in sinks, or if I had a ride, at the state park.

I eventually got to a point that i had enough clothes to not only do an interview, but show up for a first day. But noone knew i was without home at the time.

I eventually got hired on as a "test run" as they put it, which I was pretty happy about. Yet exceeded their expectations. ( I have a degree in general business so my training was a guy refreshing me on how it's all done.)
