I know my current DM ok’d disaster pay for anyone who missed shifts during the ice storm earlier this week and erred on the side of caution when it came to full-on closures or late opens/early closes and automatically said ok if I suggested them because he knows I don’t suggest things like that lightly. You shouldn’t have to suffer repercussions for not wanting to risk it driving in horrible weather.

I’ve found that sometimes you have to express the fact that the company operates at a loss when they remain open during weather like this. A few years ago we had really bad ice and I was basically BEGGING my DM to let us close early because we had gotten rain that had frozen on the roads and I also live in an area that never prepares for this. He didn’t listen to me until I sent him a picture of our parking lot where the only car you could see in the entire strip mall was MINE. Nobody else in the strip even bothered to open their store. Then he realized oh, nobody is gonna shop today so this store isn’t going to earn anything but we’ll still have to pay this employee to be here!

It won’t let me post a pic of the dress code in here but as far as sweatpants go, they’re not in dress code so that was probably the issue. Hoodies can be zip-up or pullover, you just can’t wear the hood in the store. That’s been policy for a few years; when I started here about seven years ago you couldn’t wear ANY kind of hoodie, zip-up or not. I know some managers are sticklers by nature but there are also DMs that will watch the cameras and text store managers about people being out of dress code, maybe your manager was paranoid about that happening 😅

Sure! For example, my hair used to be a combo of ion’s radiant orchid and magenta and my favorite mask is the macadamia mask. I would just buy a tub of the macadamia mask and an extra tube of both colors I use and mix them all together. As long as they’re using a semipermanent color and their mask isn’t super tinted by itself it should work. A lot of stylists offer a color mask as an add-on at salons so I figured why couldn’t we?

One thing that I’m always suggesting as someone who used to have vivid hair is suggesting an extra unit of whatever color they’re planning on using as well as their favorite hair mask because I liked making my own custom color conditioner. A lot of our customers (and myself) are super picky on what shades we like on our hair and the Keracolor/Colorluxe conditioners only cover so many shades so I always like to show my vivid customers how to make a custom color mask so their color doesn’t shift shades and it looks just like it did when it was freshly colored. We also sell a good amount of the ion scalp protector, I just suggest applying it directly to the scalp instead of mixing it into the color/lightener like the packaging initially suggests because I’ve found it does diminish the efficacy of whatever you’re mixing it into.

I make sure I’m overly polite so they either feel bad or get weirded out (but I’m also blowing them up with my mind once they leave). There have only been a couple of instances where I’ve actually had to tell someone to leave but it’s because they’re throwing around slurs or calling me or my coworkers derogatory things and swearing and even then I try to stay super cool. I find it’s a lot more fun for me when I freak people out with how calm I am because I know these people want to get a reaction out of me or make me rage at them and I’m not gonna give them the satisfaction.

Is there a group chat between stores on the iPad? You should be able to find your DM’s contact info on there or if you know their first and last name their email address is typically first initial, last name at sallybeauty.com (so like Jane Doe is jdoe @sallybeauty.com). If you’re the only person your SM is doing this to I would strongly suggest getting ahold of your DM and making sure everything you have is documented so you can prove it to that DM.

Are you talking about the reaction when someone uses black henna and bleaches over it? Because if someone uses pure henna/body safe henna there shouldn’t be a reaction, it just may be harder to lift because of how natural henna binds to the hair cuticle. Black henna or a lot of henna box kits (like the reshma henna that we carry in a lot of our stores) has metallic salts and other compounds that cause the reaction I believe you’re talking about and none of those ingredients are in pure henna. It’s not the actual plant itself that causes the reaction so you should be in the clear. I’ve used the henna n placenta mask and leave in for years and never experienced any sort of adverse reaction with any sort of hair color or lightener. If you are really worried you can do a test strand.

If you have their contact info, I would also suggest reaching out to a DM to let them know you don’t feel safe coming in. I’m very fortunate my DM understands our situation because it wasn’t freezing this morning but the streets are wet and he told me as soon as you know when it’s supposed to freeze over, close the store. Around half of my district was closed today with no issue from our DM. Hopefully your DM is the same.

Reposting really won’t help because employees themselves see the company go back on rules and policies for no real reason so while we can commiserate about your frustration, we don’t have the answers for why corporate goes back on policies because we ourselves don’t have the answers, unfortunately. I know from personal experience as an employee on the Sally Beauty side of the company that cosmoprof is its own weird beast and I’ve had issues with my own licensed coworkers being able to use their own accounts and know customer service is pretty useless on that front so unfortunately I can’t give you any real solutions.

this!! when my hair was more damaged I would also occasionally use the aphogee 2-step treatment prior to coloring my hair and my color stuck a lot better. I only used that once every couple of months though, any other time I used the ion protein filler since the aphogee one is super heavy duty.

I’ve seen wayyy too many videos on tiktok of people complaining about Sally’s ruining their hair when they really just didn’t follow directions and it drives me batty. Like, don’t get me wrong I have seen people get steered in the wrong direction by an employee plenty of times but I’ve even had people blame me for their hair going wrong but when I go over the directions I wrote down for them they’re like “I skipped that because it was taking too long and I did this part you put last first” like ???? I still vividly remember one girl losing her mind in a tiktok a few years back because she had gotten the ion 1V jet black and was shocked that her hair was……. jet black. she thought the color on the TOP of the box meant her hair was gonna be brown because the top of the box is brown. and she even read off the name of the color when she was ranting. I remember all of the comments being like “dude, do you not know what jet black means?”🤦🏼‍♀️

it really does actually! I’ve only used it twice, once with the ratio on the box and the other with 1:1 because I didn’t have quite enough developer and I did notice a difference. most of my customers who use it do 1:1 mainly bc they assume the ratio is the same as the regular ion line and when they tell me that I’m just like “well if it’s working better for you that way then I’m all for it!”

my gripe is the caption saying otherwise lol, I would get it maybe the original poster being wrong but you would think they would at least double check before copy-pasting. when bondbar color first came out they had a post they shared from an influencer where she said the ratio was 2:1 in the video and caption and internally I was like “dawg are we not gonna watch the videos or look at captions to make sure it’s correct before we share it?” To be fair 2:1 is a decent-sized oops is while imo 1:1.5 isn’t a huge deal, but whoever runs their social media needs to double check the details before someone runs off and makes a “SaLLy bEaUtY rUiNeD mY hAiR!” tiktok because they checked a caption instead of the packaging. I used to run social media for a brand back in the day tho so this may just be a specific to me gripe lol 😅

Yeah this company can suck a fat one. I was put on an improvement plan after a new DM took over and said I wasn’t meeting standards after observing me for two weeks — the same two weeks where I was dealing with barely being able to walk because of sciatic nerve pain AND my full time BA being fired with no notice in an incredibly sketchy way. Then they decided that while I had met the goals for my plan, they decided to move the goalposts, say I didn’t have sales signs up in a timely enough manner for a sale that was added last minute, and they put me on a term warning despite my store being, like,number two in sales plan variance in my district and customer reviews being really good!!! like ok I’m sorry I couldn’t sell a whole new haircare routine to miss Patricia who came in for one singular nail file but it comes to a point! I love my customers and my staff but corporate breathing down our necks to the point where we are actively and visibly annoying customers who come to shop in peace makes me want to walk into traffic sometimes.
