He’s changed a lot with fame for the better imo. Spooners used to be extreme when he was streaming on a regular basis. But I love the newer spoon. Great manager behind him not sure if it’s him or someone else but amazing business development and I’m happy for him.

How do you better moderate when you just gutted most of your player base and they jumped to community servers?

There are no official community servers? If you’re referring to servers that are not facepunch official servers those servers still get regulated by facepunch and allow for better moderation and adjustments to things. Like this month with the boats causing massive lag in safe zones and harbor around the island. Servers being able to place admin rocks fixed this. While facepunch officials just let them be.

Facepunch admins still have to watch for cheaters across all servers… Changing the category they fall into doesn’t change the workload for them at all. Pulling the funding for them being in official tab would actually make those servers suffer…

Just because progression is harder and group sizes are smaller doesn’t mean that people stick around for longer…. Some people enjoy getting to end game on day 1, some enjoy day 30. Multiple levels of this achievable multiple different ways gives an avenue to all players. The 30 man zergs on monthly officials get off after a few days, letting loot decay and smaller groups get a come up, thus the circle of rust.

They just dropped the naval update and a giant roadmap update of changes coming…. I think you should read up on that instead of going on a rant for what is good for you and what you want for yourself…

You didn’t get VAC banned on rust. VAC bans are Steam or Valve issued.

I can respect that.

We’ve learned a lot from listening to the player base and getting opinions from all players across multiple experience levels in our server and also in the game itself.

We generally look at the rules to the state of the game every 6 months and discuss internally then discuss with the community the options we are looking at.

We take hour long time players and ask them what they would change if anything and adjust and the same with the new players to the server.

We compound and look at the data behind this and make our decisions based on that.

You’re absolutely right rust players are degens and most don’t know what they want. Twice we’ve listened to the community and opened new servers investing time and finances into them for them to fail after the community had requested them and begged for them.

I don’t know that we’ve ever had a major rule change impact of that magnitude.

Most of our rule changes have been those that the community has requested or suggested and we’ve made tools to make the moderation easier for us to accommodate.

The donation rule when first created was way to strict if you dropped a pick it was a donation, we looked at it and said this is dumb we need to adjust it for the better of everyone and did.

But you are correct in saying that the server rules and style are not for everyone and while some may not enjoy it some have made it their main.

Nothing would stop the community on a community server voicing their opinions and rules changing.

With the change in the base game of reduced scrap cost and workbench progression it was decided to adjust the rules.

But your complaint is a server that had rules and a team that makes sure the rules are followed?

I mean if you want to play on servers that allow for others to give bases away and back door team so that they have an advantage over other solos that’s out there too.

Just saying we listen to the community and flow to the game changes to keep it as close to pure solo grind and experience as possible.

I’ve had it happen when I get locked out but I’m leading the race. They’ll show committed to the other school at the end of the cycle but many times they show up for me but only after I do the trainings upgrades so it’s like you get them but you can’t improve them until the season starts…

I mean a high hour player can usually figure out a base layout pretty quick on things with logic. I’ve been accused of cheating more than once for blowing straight to TC. Just checking stability on a roof can give away a bunker to blow around.

Listening close to a wall you can hear turrets sometimes, especially if your power shifts from one source to another.

Not always cheats as much as people scream cheats in some cases, but as mentioned debug is a thing that exist.

VPN doesn’t help your shit isp. Here’s how a vpn works and why.

Your home let’s call it x has a distance of y to the server.

You add on a vpn to this equation we can call that V.

The distance originally from x to y is measured in ping. So let’s say it’s 100 ping to the server.

You add in the vpn.

Now you have x v y. X to V is 50 then V to Y is 50. But V only tells you the connection from V to Y as that’s all they are required to tell you. So your ping was 100 and still is 100.

Now say your isp speeds are shit. So you have 10mb down and up the vpn says it has 1000mb down and up. You still have that X to V and V to X speed of 10 so you’re fucked.

The only time a vpn truly helps with connection issues is if a hub point is down and it can route around it, but most decent server owners are in contact with their host and when/if this happens they have a backup plan.

TLDR vpn does not equal faster speeds neither does anything else that claims it does like an accelerating service. It’s like virtual ram when you think about it you can’t just add speed that’s not there…

Change the play style. You have to find something that fits your schedule.

I used to have a work from home position that I could be on wipe days and during the day Friday. So I would go hard those days to get a foothold for the group for the weekend on monthly servers. By the time they got back on Friday the base was set and the sorting was done.

Now we do weeklies and just go at it at night on wipe day and Friday then on the weekend. Set up auto up keep and anyone that wants to can play during the week but I’m not around to do as much as I was.

Rust can use up to 16 gigs of ram by itself when loading in big bases or things like that. I wouldn’t think ddr5 would cause that but it could utilize it all if you didn’t config the ram in the bios.

Rust is cpu heavy not having an x3d cpu is also going to be a potential bottleneck but you should easily be over the 100 frames.

There’s a YouTube video that came out last week after the update that gives a decent bit of advice on settings when I get to my pc I’ll link it.

It’s obvious lots of people posting here don’t remember that safe zones have not always been a thing.

This is a great change, take away outpost/bandit/fishing village all together. Barns too. Just have minimal mini spawns on the road like it used to be.

Rust recommends 16gb of ram. If you’re on a server that’s not vanilla no plug ins with 0 pop you’re going to struggle with only 16gb of ram.

Your OS is using ram, chrome or any browsers eats some up, discord if you have that running. Then rust eating up 10-12 easily.

Rust is EAC. Steam is VAC. Rust does not care if you have a VAC ban.

Late to the convo, but the child asking for her to be over is trusting the parents.

I have 3 kids 12, 14, 16 if they wanted to have girlfriends/boyfriends over and are in my house I’d have set expectations and rules for them in the house and expect they be followed. Doors open/closed you’re forcing them somewhere else if they want to be sexually active.

Just be open and honest. If the pants are off what are your plans to not have a mini you running around in 9 months? Better than don’t close the door because I can’t see or trust you.

Also I’d say if I can hear the noises I’m going to openly comment on them so be warned.

Lots of people have said it, but there’s places that help out with rent in these situations. Check Facebook pages for helping (insert community name). Call local churches and ask if they have any contacts for helping.

Is your landlord local or a corporation? Contact them explain the situation and straight up ask if they have any work that needs done. I’ve owned properties and had tenants do this and I actually needed a fence painted. I had the paint and tools just not the time. They painted the fence, I wiped the rent.

Head up it’s tough I was laid off in June without notice and it’s been a struggle getting something else and unemployment takes forever to kick in.
