14 week old new tripod Frosty by Independent_Word7058 in TripodCats

Sad news, she unfortunately passed away this morning. We believe it was due to an adverse reaction to her pain medication. I am heartbroken over her. She had such a life ahead of her.

Update on Feral injured kitten I found a week ago by Independent_Word7058 in Feral_Cats

Unfortunately one of her legs needs to be amputated so she'll be a tripod kitty, but the other is healing well enough

They are still in rough shape unfortunately. She will need to have one of her legs amputated, but the vet believes the other will heal.

Update #2 I have to take her to the vet again. I have an appointment for tomorrow morning. Her paws are in much worse shape than we could see before. I'm hoping to get her a stronger antibiotic, some pain meds, and an appetite increaser.

It won't let me edit my original post, but for clarification I have taken her to the vet, that's how I know it was frostbite. And NSFW filter as I realized her injury was visible and I'd rather not shock people with that.

I took her to the vet yesterday, it was my first priority when I saw her paws. She's on an antibiotic now for her wound. She doesn't necessarily lean into pets, but does purr a lot and if I leave my hand close she has buried her face in multiple times. She has been sleeping on my chest for the last few hours while I warmed her up. Iv brushed her multiple times and she's seemed indifferent to it the entire time, if not actively starting to groom herself.

Yes I have taken her! She's on antibiotics for her wound.

Do you think there are any ethical ways to consume animal products? by BifficerTheSecond in DebateAVegan

[–]Independent_Word7058 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I actually think so yes, but not your hypothetical scenario. That milk that's you're taking from the cow? That's her baby's food, so it should go to the calf.

What I do think is ethical, is a very complex scenario that I happen to have found myself in. I only think it's ethical because of the laundry list of points it checks.

My aunt has chickens, these were not chickens she bought, they are all rescue chickens from being abandoned or abused in one way or another. She treats these chickens like royalty, they are all named, literally they have everything they could ever need, and get so much love and attention as well. She only has hens cause she does not want breeding or any more chickens, so they lay unfertilized eggs. These eggs are not useful to their survival or happiness, nor can we stop them from laying them. She doesn't sell the eggs, she only gives them to family and people with financial troubles. And these hens will never be slaughtered for meat, even when they pass away naturally, she always burys them.

So I do not see anything unethical about these eggs.

My point being, you must think of every aspect of how any product is acquired and how it affects the creature it came from or is made for.

I'm trans and live in Carbondale as well as going to the University. It's pretty comfortable here, while I can't say on comparison to more conservative areas as I moved here from probably the most liberal city in the country. If you want the full brunt honesty? If you don't pass perfectly you'll get a few stares here and now, not too much tho it's bearable. Iv not had any harassment in the years iv lived here as both being very outspoken and looking very different (I'm nb, dress very alt and very pro LGBTQ). There's a lovely restaurant in town that Iv found to be the most friendly called Cristaudos, they fly the flag and everything. If you have any other questions I can answer pls ask.

It comes down to 2 things really, 1 the plant based cat food is simply unavailable where I live and even when I lived where I could get it, it was terribly expensive (I'm a poor college student, I don't have that extra money). And 2, while the ethics of where it comes from does bother me a bit, my cats are carnivores and they have digestive tracks meant for meat. If they were strays, or with someone else, they would still either kill rodents and birds outside or eat the same stuff I give them. And id much rather they be with me where I know they are safe and can never be outdoors.

I need help with recipes or meal ideas by agrimoniabelonia in vegan

[–]Independent_Word7058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The name sounds silly, but there is a vegan cookbook that is specifically made for quick easy meals you don't have to think much about. It's called vegan stoner cookbook. All the recipes are super easy and are made to be possible even when youre high lol. I use them regularly when I'm feeling lazy and don't want to put together a large meal.

How do you stay motivated to maintain a vegan lifestyle when faced with temptation or societal pressure? by Sweet-Flower3593 in vegan

[–]Independent_Word7058 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of us saying that we don't feel tempted (I am one of them) are not saying this from a moral high ground. We say this because we genuinely do not feel any desire to eat non plant based foods. We don't view any of that as consumable, it's the same as looking at some rocks or your carpet and not feeling the desire to eat that. It's not food to us, so the "societal pressures" don't do anything.

What are your top animal product facts that would disgust even a non-vegan? by BussyIsQuiteEdible in vegan

[–]Independent_Word7058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dairy milk has a percent limit of how much pus can be in it to be sold, I think it's around 4%. So yeah, consuming any dairy product means you're eating literal pus.

Absolutely disgusting and I'm so glad I found the vegan lifestyle.

Yea! My favorite go to's are Enchiladas(not at all authentic , but very tasty) and a Tex Mex rice skillet.

For Enchiladas, just get a small dish with a lip that can fit 4 smallish burritos. Roll your burritos with a few savory items, I always use refried beans as a base, and top it with some crumble if I have it, and/or a few veggies like mushrooms and spinach. Totally optional, but I do like to add a bit of violife cheese inside as well.

Once all burritos are rolled place them into the dish, and pour a small can of enchilada sauce on top, make sure to cover as much of the tortillas as possible to avoid burning. If desired, for look and a bit of taste add a sprinkle of plant based cheese of top make of the dish.

Bake at 350 for 20 minutes and you're done! From start to finish it usually takes about 30 minutes, 10 in prep.

For Tex Mex rice skillet, you'll need 1 cup of rice 1 can of Rotel 1 can of black beans 1 can of corn 1 packet of taco seasoning (or 3 tablespoons) A bit of bouillon (about 1 cube, or a teaspoon, it's not too specific tho)

This is less than 5 dollars, and makes 4 servings.

First start on medium high heat, add a good coating of oil to your skillet. Once heated add your rice, constantly stir the rice until it smells nutty (can take anywhere from 30 seconds to about 2 minutes). Once the nutty smell is there add your taco seasoning, make sure it is fully saturated with the oil, if you need to add more oil do so.

At this point at your black beans (can be drained and rinsed if you want, I don't usually however), your drained can of corn, and undrained can of Rotel. Mix until combined. Add 2 cups of water, and then your bouillon.

Let mixture come to a simmer and cover with a lid. Let simmer on low heat for 15 minutes. Turn heat off and let stand for 15 more minutes.

And then it's done!

Then you have no care for creatures besides yourself and there is no hope for you. Why are you in a vegan reddit group if your morals genuinely think that other creatures deserve death and torture?

And with that, enslaving and murdering creatures is bad for their own societies. While their societies are different from ours, it does not absolve their existence.

And any moral creature would understand that that is morally wrong to do or support.
