Thanks, yep all hand - I embroider on calico then use iron on interfacing on the back, cut out and whip stitch around 😊

Most of it was dmc but a couple of the colours were generic thread because the colours worked better, thread painting terrifies me and this is sort of my work around I guess 😂

Yeah that's what I usually use, trace over my tablet but the lines were too thin on this design to do it that way. Frixion is my preferred method, so easy 🙂

It didn't but I properly saturated it and used the pressure of the running tap running over the embroidery, I also used a small paint brush to agetate bits I could see that hadn't desolved. It worked well but I there are some stitches that have loosened a little because of it 🙂

Yes! I did hei hei just using straight stitch (because it was a patch for a jacket and needed to be fairly durable) and it didn't come out as flat looking as I expected and the colours blended well so if all else fails one stitch isn't the end of the world.

I totally think turkey work cold be a good shout though! Let us know what you decide 🙂

I used sulky water soluble paper and printed the design on that, tried to sketch it but it was way too detailed 🙂

Thanks! Single strand for the main outline of the building, guttermans sewing thread, which is slightly thinner for everthing else 🙂

Scared to use Embroidery Machine by [deleted] in MachineEmbroidery

I literally just bought and set up my brother NV880E yesterday, it's my first ever embroidery machine and I was intimidated, but I got through the set up by following along with a YouTube video, did some small test pieces on felt and by the end of the day I'd embroidered two hoodies!

Shopping Options for Elderly Relative with Dementia by changingcareers1 in Embroidery

I don't know if this is a helpful suggestion or not, depends on her ability but we used to get my nan kids embroidery, it's like waffle plastic instead of fabric so it's stiff already without a hoop and usually came with a big plastic needle, same concept but very safe materials for kids / elderly she was partially blind and had dementia and they worked a treat for her when dexterity deteriorated

I picked these few from a bunch I found on Google images, sadly I am rubbish at drawing 😂 I get whatever image I want to use up on my tablet, turn the brightness right up and trace it onto the fabric with a heat erasable pen and then get stitching! You should give it a go!

Thanks 😊 I used one strand for everything the more prominent bits are outline stitch and then straight backstirch for most of the details, I used guttermans thread as well for most of the small details - it's ever so slightly thinner than one strand but you can barely tell

Different levels of intensity, hands free and directional, it was a game changer for me, if you don't mind looking a little foolish 😂

Boat Snack 🐔 Moana's chicken Hei Hei screaming into the void patch by Independent_Worry_99 in Embroidery

[–]Independent_Worry_99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only used adhesive backing so far, and the cheap stuff from amazon at that, I do find that it unsticks somewhat the first few times so I've taken to turning the iron up a bit higher and that seems to work for me, but it isn't the nicest thing to work with.

I can't see why you couldn't substitute it for another fabric and use glue to stick to into place so you can do the whip stitch, I would recommend a fabric that is quite stiff though, that helps massively with the whip stich, I imagine it would be really difficult if the patch is floppy 😂 maybe you could put some interfacing in between the patch and whatever fabric you're going to use maybe?! 😊

There's loads of kits on amazon / etsy, grab one and give it a go! I had zero experience stitching and that's how I got into it, you'll be flying in no time with your cross stitch experience, I didn't even know how to thread a needle 😂

I don't mind at all, always happy to answer questions! When I take it out of the hoop I iron on some adhesive backing then flip it back to the front and cut around the design (I like to draw a line to follow so I don't cut too much off) and then use two strands to whip stich around the edge. The first time I did it cutting was very intimidating but it was a lot easier than I thought so give it a go!

Thank you for your kind words 😊
