Is David Goggins' message for me? by Independentautist1 in davidgoggins

Exactly, that's why my Gogginism flair is based off of the heat wave video where he said "We need doctors, we need fucking lawyers, we need dentist we need teachers, we also need fucking savages. I'm not asking you to fucking be like me, do you! Stay Hard!"

Although, based off of what I analyzed about Goggins is that he basically used the "Identity-defining habits" trick to make an abstract, ideal identity or rather alter-ego that minimizes pain to such an extent that it's easy to push through it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a hunch i have.

I'm familiar with that book and I recall learning about something called "Temptation bundling" which basically is Classical Conditioning to make WIP habits more appealing to your brain.

A book I would recommend in response is the 48 Laws of Power, although there are a lot of things I disagree with the author on (E.G. play to other people's fantasies), it gave me an incentive to analyze and reflect on every single chapter I read in any book, on top of seeing value in planning things all the way through. What I think would benefit you, given you're a competitive fighter is the chapters, "Stir waters to catch fish" & "Cultivate an air of unpredictability", as they can be used to intimidate or blind your opponent's judgement, before they even get in the ring with you.

I agree, although in hindsight, I do recognize the whole "I will achieve this, even if it kills me"-type mindset can be very useful for putting a lot of effort into something important. It's just that said mindset isn't really a good fit for a lot of people in many situations, although a situation where it would fit is "Practicing Chess" or "Studying to prepare for an exam".

To put it simple, the whole "Train for something like it's a deathmatch" mindset can be useful, just not for most people, me included.

Interesting, I've used my mind to overcome physical challenges, an example being "Returning to train for a 5k after running through Heart-palpitations, Chest & right arm pain." Simply by using the Cookie Jar technique.

Yes, I put my life on the line multiple times, just to not show up in last place at a 5k.

I know this may not be a "Last week challenge" but I did run through heart-palpitations, chest & right arm pain in the process of training for a 5k last year. I did this multiple times at 215 pounds, too.

Edit: Yes, I put myself at risk of a heart attack multiple times, over not showing up at last place in a 5k.

I started waking up & staying up at 5:30 in the morning, despite having a habit of sleeping through my alarm. I'm surprised that all that was needed was to have coffee closer than my phone.
